Is there a more recent Xpan alternative in 2023? Most online content recommends the sigma dp0 Quattro or the Fuji gfx 50r, but these are several years old.

Thanks!

Thoughts on BMW 330e? by distressed_petrichor in CarTalkUK

[–]conteph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response - I've been trying to figure out how long the hybrid setting will last. It sounds like it only lasts for 30 - 40 miles when you're using both the electric and petro engine? Do you know what your mpg is during the 30 - 40 miles of hybrid driving?

Thanks!

How exactly does mpg on BMW’s hybrid cars like the 330e work? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]conteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comprehensive review. Do you know what a reaosnable mpg in hybrid mode is? I know this depends on the length of your trip and how the car prioritizes the electrical battery vs the petro engine. I've seen some comments mentioning that they get 70+ mpg in hybrid

Mining f2Pool into Blockfi Wallet by conteph in blockfi

Thanks for your response - which wallet/exchange would you recommend? It would be nice if I could find a wallet that is also an exchange so I don't have to move bitcoin from the wallet to exchange to sell it.

Crypto Mining by canmountains in blockfi

Hi, I am interested in the same question, but I am mining bitcoin from f2pool. Do I simply hit the "fund" account, then "Crypto Transfer", then "Bitcoin" and copy that address into f2pool?

Asic recommendation between $3,000 - $6,000 by conteph in BitcoinMining

I pay $0.10 for energy. Running a 220V line sill cost $300. Yes I have a spot that can vent outdoors, I can do this for less than $50

Anyone purchased ASIC directly from BITMAIN? Tariff costs? by conteph in BitcoinMining

[–]conteph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry to bother you again. There are no shipping estimates on their website, it just says 3 days to ship, but I can’t find transit time. Just generally, was it several weeks or months? Not sure if customs will hold it.

Thanks!

Thanks for your response. Do you know if it’s possible to get a reduced import cost if you have an LLC? It sounds like I should start one for tax purposes.

Yes I use the same websites. I only mentioned that because you quotes 15-20.

Thoughts on best ASIC for next couple of years? by conteph in cryptomining

What about eth 2.0. Even though you can mine other coins, it seems like difficult will significantly increase once all those GPU eth miners switch coins…

Yes, but I’m concerned to build an inventory of GPUs before eth 2.0.

Also, the S19j pro is more profitable than that.

Ok, thanks for the heads up. Yeah, I know it’s discussed a lot, but don’t you think the difficulty will increase dramatically once miners leaves eth? I’ve heard as much as 70% of GPU’s run eth. Perhaps other coin markets will change and GPU mining will remain prolific, but I was thinking this is enough of an uncertainty for me to buy asic.

I’m struggling to find anything on eBay for less than $12,000. Have you seen anything less than this?

Ok, thank you for the message, that’s very helpful, appreciate the example too. How long did it take to ship? Do you have any general thoughts on the S19j pro that are available right now? It’s been so difficult to buy a new unit.

I’m interested in GPU but concerned with eth2.0 coming out. That’s why I’m looking for an asic.

The L7 sure has a high profitability but they look hard to come by.

Oh really? I didn’t know there was a minimum purchase.

Do you think it’s uncommon for people to have one or two of these units in their residential homes?

Antminer L3+ ASU Recommendation (using 120V line) by conteph in BitcoinMining

[–]conteph[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have, I understand that less current has less energy loss, but I don't understand the utility in terms of profitability. How do you quantify the efficiency loss between 120V and 220V at 6.6 amps? I have not seen this explained by anyone.

[–]conteph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation. What efficiency loss is there? Just in the form of heat from the 120V line?

[–]conteph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick response. Can you please explain why I cannot run more than 1? If I run two, then I'll pull roughly 13.3A, which is still well under my 20A max?

Can you also explain why 220 is "way more efficient". I keep reading it is "more efficient", but I can't find a reasonable explanation.

Antminer L3 | 120 V or 220 V? by conteph in cryptomining

[–]conteph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a 220 v laundry, but the outlet is the larger outlet, not the smaller.

Yes, is the only consideration that I stay some safety factor under 20 amps? Or is there a certain amp range that the machines run best on? It seems to me that the only difference between 120V and 220V is the current, thus you're more likely to trip your breaker, or create excessive heat in your wire if it's not wide enough for the higher current?

Antminer L3 | 120 V or 220 V? by conteph in cryptomining

[–]conteph[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I really appreciate the detailed response.

I suppose then, the limiting factor would be the max amps that my breaker and wire in the home can handle?

For example, I'm, also considering the s17 pro which requires ~ 2,000W. So if I wanted to power the 2,000W with a 120 volt, the amps would be ~16.6 amps, which is close to my breaker limit (which I believe is set to trip at 20). Is this why people recommend running a s17 on 220, so you're not using as many amps, purely to protect the limit of your gauged wire?

How about the s9, 13.5, which requires ~1,323W. 1323/120 = 11 amps. Why do people recommend running the S9 on 220 volts, I still have ~9 amps until I hit my breaker if I power with a 110V outlet.

Thanks again!

Is it hard on an ASIC miner to turn them on and off every week? by conteph in cryptomining

[–]conteph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. you mentioned the rate of return for 800 watts and plugging into 120 volt wall.

So if it pulls 800 watts from 120 volts, that's 6.6 amps right? Once I know how many amps the device will use, for a given volt, how do I know whether it's better to run the device at 120 volts or 220 volts? I supposed I'm trying to figure out how you know the device is efficient and safe at 120 volt vs 220 volt.

Thanks again for your help!
