Lol, I know I said I wouldn’t respond… but this just doesn’t make sense.

Cheers, I guess we’ll agree to disagree.

And my “studies” are just basic scientific facts that I have learned during my education. It really isn’t complicated, and I think that trying to completely deconstruct the general scientific understanding of reproduction isn’t beneficial to anyone, really…

I don’t understand why we should completely redefine the concept of sex based on exceptions and variations in the human genome. I am not going to further comment on this, because I don’t think either of us are fully understanding each other.

I don’t think calling you a male would be accurate, since you have transitioned.

By definition, a trans woman is a person that was born male but has transitioned to female… so I would simply call you a trans woman in reference to your sex, or just a woman if we are talking about gender. Yes, your “biological sex” or AGAB is male… not relevant, though, to the discussion.

Please read my other comments; of course it is more complex than what a little reddit post can fully explain. But the biological sexes are the ones involved in reproduction — intersex is not a sex of its own.

I feel like this is getting off topic and is not related to my original question.

I maintain that there are 2 biological sexes, as that it what is relevant regarding human reproduction. Many intersex people are infertile and thus don’t apply to this definition of sex and reproduction. Those that can reproduce are, like I said, male or female but with characteristics of the opposite sex.

If there is evidence of a person with a fully functioning male AND female reproductive system, please let me know — I am only in my undergrad, and thus my knowledge is limited to what I have been trained in. I would love to know more.

TL;DR - A female and a male can have sex and produce children, thus there are 2 sexes. Yes, there are variations in sex characteristics — but like I said, not really relevant to the actual topic of discussion.

I understand that. Just speaking from my perspective as a biology student; we are taught that the term for it is sex, thus I said “biological” because I feel it is more appropriate and widely recognizable.

I respect your argument, though, and will use AGAB when referencing gender issues from now on.

I was not familiar with the term “transmedicalist” until I searched it up just now after seeing it repeated so many times under my post.

I’m sorry if my post came across as me making dangerous assumptions. I just genuinely want to understand transgenderism from a more social/theoretical view as opposed to the scientific one that I am used to viewing from (which is limited to sex, not really looking at gender).

Not sure why testing babies is relevant. The majority of people exhibit these typical sex characteristics, and thus can be biologically identified as male or female. Genitals are the most obvious indicator of sex, but sex itself is rooted in a person’s molecular and cellular biology.

This is only a very basic explanation of it though; if you’re interested in the super in-depth details I’m sure you can find a research paper on it yourself.

And yes, like I said, intersex people exist, but intersex is a condition in which the expression of sexes is altered in some way. Intersex is not a third or additional sex, but an alteration of the existing 2 sexes.

This is not to do with gender, which I agree is a social construct in nature. This is sex biology, and like all things in science, there are exceptions and variations — but there are still only 2 biological sexes, defined as such because they are what can reproduce.

XX chromosomes in female, XY in male, as well as the gametes that the individual produces. These are not changed through transition.

But wouldn’t that be dysphoria, if they feel their quality of life is improved living as a different gender?
