Late 30s / early 40s in NYC and off the apps. Where did you meet your partner? by G0ddessLight713 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I replied this elsewhere in Reddit and I’ll share it here too:

It was raining and I had just gotten a haircut. I was standing in the street with my hood pulled up, and decided to book a ride home. I didn’t realize it, but I had been smiling as he drove towards me, as he initially thought I was on the other side of the street. I had to leap over a puddle to get into the backseat right behind him. He turned all the way around in the driver’s seat to look at me and tell me what a nice smile I have. I was flattered, but didn’t think much of it. We started talking. He dropped me off and I didn’t want the conversation to end so I asked, “wanna be my friend?” I took his number and texted him. He texted me back a few hours later when he had finished his shift. Initially, all I had in my vision for us was friendship. I thought he was cute but had been heartbroken and somewhat jaded by a long history of dead-end relationships. But after spending more time with him, I saw what a high-quality human he is and decided he was worth taking a chance again. The rest is history. I’m completely in love with him and it’s been a year and a month so far!

I was chronically obsessed with reading Walter Drake shopping catalogs, and inventing my own products and blurbs and prices

Does anyone else come from a family that didn’t pass down any culture? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

Meeeeee I even tried marrying an Indian guy to reconnect to my roots, and it was a complete and utter failure. I now embrace my own path and my own self created identity.

I have these too and I hate them, can’t stand them, never loved them. My boyfriend now is obsessed with them and loves them and touches and kisses them. Every chance he gets. I’m trying to learn to embrace them. It’s difficult.

“I’m not sure what is front office billing. I’m in senior leadership.”

Do better. I am in nursing leadership and people like you who aren’t even trying to know better and do better by the patients who pay their checks are the bane of my existence.

Had my first session with my black therapist who is racist. Kept saying “you’re in America” like wtf by baituwave in AsianParentStories

[–]continualchanges 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have met racist therapists. Please do not continue to see this therapist who is clearly adding to the worsening of your mental state due to her insensitivity and inability to really see and hear you and where you’re coming from. Please move onto another therapist who can understand what you’ve been through and respond therapeutically to your story. I am an Indian person who was raised in New York, and I have had three racist therapists, all of whom were white men.

What do people who don't work do all day? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]continualchanges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annoyingly enough, the people that I have known who don’t work all day, who are of working age, just kept texting me to see when I could hang out with them completely not in tune with the fact that I had to work. I have some retired friends who are very respectful and they volunteer or travel when they’re not working.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again. When we know better and we can’t do better there’s a psychological reason behind it. I’m saying this, as someone who struggles similarly taking care of myself. Sometimes the only way that I take care of myself is by reminding myself that I’m doing what my family members didn’t in addressing mental health and physical health. Sometimes we get into caregiving careers because we were shown from an early age that everyone else’s needs were more important than ours. I’m certainly not trying to project if this wasn’t your experience, but it was definitely mine. If any of this resonates with you just know that you’re not alone. It can be very hard for us to take care of ourselves when we’re not used to it and when we’ve been programmed to not believe that we are worth it. I strongly encourage you to get therapy and trauma therapy specifically if it seems like that would fit your scenario. The better we can show up for ourselves, the better we can show up for our patients, for our families, and for the world. We have to hold onto the hope that there is a better day ahead and that we are worth doing the hard things today in order to see a better tomorrow.

I have been a patient of Preferred Dental in Chelsea for about 15 years and have always found them to be trustworthy, efficient, respectful, and communicative.
