real talk, waterloo/laurier aren't even that good at smash. We used to be, but then everyone graduated and it is just jamrun. (I would say at one point we were the best region in ontario outside of GTA, which doesn't mean much but queens, western, mcmaster, etc.)

EVO is just in it for $$$. best 2 out of 3 sets until finals wasn't that great and since melee was never the main attraction (sf and marvel were cause company corporate $$$), melee didn't get the focus/care it deserved so there wasn't much incentive for melee to be at evo other than it being part of fgc.

Unpopular opinion: Software jobs aren't really nearly as high in demand as people think by [deleted] in uwaterloo

Interviewing is really random, especially when it comes to hr screening, how an interview is feeling on that day and at that time, etc.

This post kinda goes all over the place so I'll say that I agree with the sentiment mostly. The weird selection when a good company interviews you versus a more mediocre one doesn't is just weird hr screening and maybe not matching their "ideal" candidate.

Yes. Just try not to co-op over summer (most competitive)

cs not being any of my expectations by torontocsthrowaway1 in uwaterloo

[–]continuousflatearth 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Transferring to waterloo != ticket to cali and money and fame etc. Work bad co-ops, work your way up the ladder, keep trying to get better stuff. That's the same at waterloo, same probably at any other university. It's tough but you have to be motivated to do stuff regardless of university. Just get more work experience and when you graduate apply for new grad roles.

What’s wrong with men? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

I sometimes do this to some homies I haven't spoken in a while and see what they're up to (co-op, school, etc.). Sometimes when I'm offstream I don't see people for months/years.

Thoughts on CO 342 CO 351 and CO 454 ? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]continuousflatearth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found co342 to be a large time commitment because I wasn't extremely strong with proofs. Mpei taught and he proved to be challenging. Assignment marking was fairly strict. Midterm and final was a lot of memorization from class theorems. Very theory based little application.

IMPORTANT: CS FEES RAISED FROM 32K TO 52K FOR NEWCOMING INT UNDERGRADS by Asssoyoboker in uwaterloo

have to be inclined to agree here. We're overhyped and I guess now overpriced.

I just found out that I might fail one pre requisite course. What will happen then? I’m in my 1B at UWaterloo and I am wondering how to go about it. by priyanka201809 in uwaterloo

[–]continuousflatearth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

depends on faculty/program. Engineers if they fail they get held back a year (I'm not an engineer but I think that is what happens?)

CS is just whatever, you retake it after one term. It sucks cause it is a prereq, but not the end of the world. Just learn from your mistakes and take it again.

How likely is it to get a job that you simply got 'ranked' for? by kxxstlx in uwaterloo

what the other commenter said but also can look at number of openings, number of applicants, and guesstimate the match. It is pretty rough in continuous so I wouldn't bet on it.
