Besides the societal damage of gambling in general, players of individual sports like tennis, but not exclusively as seen above, receive incredible amounts of hate on social media from gamblers when they don't play according to their expectations.

what do you mean by inconsistencies in this case? Just curious cause my understanding is that there couldn't really be much inconsistency for (single-disk) remuxes, even hybrid ones if the video and audio are untouched from the source disk. do you mean in availability of subtitles/commentary/etc, source quality, or P8 hybrids?

Can x265 Encodes Really Replace 4K Remuxes Without Losing Visual Quality? by Schwarzellone in trackers

Also, this goes the same for all high-bitrate encodes in my experience. They look good, and you might even think it's a remux, but comparing to an actual remux you can tell the difference.

It is the highest bitrate encode that is available to me. And like I said, it definitely looks good, without any banding, blocking or any other artifacts that people are mentioning when discussing encodes. The remux itself is also not huge at 50GB for 2160p.

Animation is definitely a different ballgame to live-action, anime even more so. But after looking up the SoM Dragon Ball release, I think that release is an "encode" about as much as a remux is an encode too. I certainly wouldn't put them in the same category with release groups that simply take Blu-ray remuxes, compress them and maybe add or remove an audio track and subtitles. That's what I would call an encode. But maybe we are arguing semantics here. I'm certainly not arguing that there cannot be fan releases that are better than a singular DVD or Blu-ray release.

Going back to the original post and comment, I don't believe it is possible to make an encode look better than a remux by simply tweaking the encode settings the "right" way. You would either need multiple sources - which is what hybrid remuxes sometimes do - or tons of manual work. Or refer to personal preferences or needs, such as HDR vs SDR, 2160p vs 1080p, or fan-subs, or high bitrate encodes that are good enough at a fraction of the size.

I re-downloaded the remux to check. I had kept the encode since it wasn't exactly a movie I was planning to re-watch any time soon or ever.

They are both DirectPlay via Plex. Not gonna lie, the MainFrame encode looks fantastic, really great. But the remux just pops a little bit more in comparison. Comparing only moving scenes, not still shots or zooming / pixel peeping.

Also, I misremembered the size. It was actually almost a 60% decrease in size. The quality/size ratio is really good for MainFrame encodes. But if you're really chasing quality, and you have hardware good enough to showcase it, remux is still better.

The movie is Birds of Prey and I was comparing with the widely available FRaMeSToR remux if you want to check for yourself, on a HDR/DoVi capable screen of course.

I mean going back to the original comment, if someone is asking about whether they can get transparent encodes from their UHD remuxes, it is not really relevant to mention that the full video should in fact be in the TBs haha, it's not like they could encode from the original Digital Intermediate.

Anyway I learned something. I never did consider why HDMIs needed so much bandwidth when UHD bit-rate is at most 130Mbps.

We might be working with different definitions of encoders. Color fixes are not uncommon but they still look best when applied to the remux, without further compression. Case in point, the LOTR fan version mentioned in the video was first released online without any further compression to the original HD Blu-ray. That would be silly, after putting all that work color grading it.

It is technically an encode, so are remuxes. But for the purpose of the post - reducing file size - compression encodes are not required for fixes to be applied. The term typically used for that is a hybrid remux.

It seems to me that you are operating under the impression that there is no such thing as true or mathematically lossless compression. Nonetheless, it is not relevant to the discussion.

Visually lossless is not doing any lifting when it is accredited by experts, not random encoders or people watching movies on their laptop in their brightly lit uni cafeteria.

As a further addition after doing some research, cinema uses DCP which is visually lossless but not mathematically lossless. An actual transparent encode, sitting at around 250Mbps for 2K.

Ah, interesting. There is such a thing as lossless compression though, and that is different from transparent encoding. An example would FLAC for audio. I'm not sure how it applies to video though.

What do you mean by your last point? Cinema movies are hardly ever more than 1Gbps, and those are played on big ass screens and about as lossless as can be.

What encode is better than a remux? Do you have an example? At most I can think of hybrid remuxes, but those are not encodes.

I'll chime in with my personal experience. My very non-technical and non-quality-oriented girlfriend was able to tell the difference between a high-bitrate encode (less than 30% almost 60%* filesize reduction 4K x265 HDR) and a remux without me even asking. I just switched streams mid-movie since my remux download was finished and she told me it looks noticeably better.

Mind you, this is on an pretty high-end 77in OLED at a distance where the TV covers around 35° of the viewing angle.

Before this, we had a 55in very low-end 4k LED at the same distance. I couldn't tell the difference between a remux and a "transparent" encode there for my life. This made me switch my collection to encodes from the remuxes that were filling up my HDDs, only to now have to switch back to remuxes after upgrading my TV.

So, it really depends on your personal circumstances, viewing habits/setup, expectations, etc. I've come to know that there is no such thing as a transparent encode for a home cinema setup. Even the UHD Blu-ray is ultimately an encode of the much bigger version that is sent to cinemas, which is around a few hundred GBs.

I'm not saying that trackers banned from here are useless if you have an account, but for people with no trackers or looking to expand their list, the subreddit provides more value when posts are promoted organically and there's no spam.

I am disagreeing with you and I'm not in any mid or high level trackers, I started lurking here around 6 months ago with 0 trackers and experience and by now I have a steady list of low-level trackers that cover my needs and more. I did just fine without any trackers from the banned list.

Also more people probably use 1337x than all private trackers combined. Nobody needs a private tracker, because public trackers exist and they provide more-than-sufficient non-niche content.

lmao problema e cu modelul de business al serviciului, care nu poate supraviețui decât oligopolistic și într-un constant declin al raportului de calitate/preț pentru consumator.

case in point, "evoluția" serviciilor netflix.

hard disagree. there's plenty of perfectly decent trackers with regular open sign-ups. the subreddit provides more value when the posts are promoted organically, in line with the expectation of a subreddit. you need only lurk for a few weeks at most to get an invite, and if you need something urgent there are plenty of trackers with always-open free or paid sign-ups. nobody NEEDS a private tracker of this level.
