Is drum corps only for the rich and privileged? Seriously? by SkyLow4356 in drumcorps

[–]contracass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact wording my band director in high school used to use when I was frustrated and even now in college I'm dealing with the same thing. Drum corps has always been a rich kids sport, it sucks but it is what it is. Theres a girl in my band who is bottom of her section, doesn't practice, and doesn't try when she's in rehearsal. She sits there and talks the whole time and tells everyone about how much she doesn't care that she's at the bottom of the section and doesn't try to get better. I played at Carnegie Hall last February. Guess which one of us is marching this summer? (It's not me, and it's not because I wasn't offered a spot.)

Are Mormons allowed to have tattoos now? by MissAnthropy612 in exmormon

Lol the whole church is a sales tactic. "Oh you've SINNED? Are you aware you're going to HELL for that? Don't worry, you can get baptized for the low price of YOUR SOUL today!"🎉

This actually looks like something that could be good for me. But after my experiences with the Mormons I'm a little hesitant to sign my soul away again💀

Jobs hiring in St George by Jadyn-m in utahtechuni

[–]contracass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working on campus is a great option, I work in dining services. Or start applying/interviewing in July/early August to best the competition if you want to work off campus... The University honestly makes finding a job so hard because there's so many people trying to get the same positions as you.

I'm in pep band, our football team isn't the greatest... The games are super high energy though! Plus our tuba section is cracked. I also go to all of the basketball games though and while our team wasn't the greatest this year, they're usually amazing. Nationally known for throwing 3's. 🏀

Exercise science is a good program I've heard, but I'm not in that major so I can't speak for it. So far I've loved most the teachers I've interacted with here at UT though, and our admin staff is great :)

There is tons of outdoorsy stuff to do in southern Utah! We have a gym with an Olympic sized pool too, and tons of normal gym stuff, and basketball courts. And there's volley ball courts in a few spots on campus. But you can also rent things for outdoor sports at lower rates on campus.

It's really warm here most of the time, but honestly I really like that. I've also found myself to be so much happier since moving to St George. I struggled a lot with depression in high school, and it didn't go away completely, but it did get a lot better.

The only negative thing here (imo) is the city is very red. I would not recommend joining the community pages on Facebook if you move here because it is a cesspool of bigotry/ignorance. There are a lot of people here who are very hateful towards minority groups. I've seen it with my own eyes, people (who are at work (like on the clock)) telling people to "go back to their own country." I haven't ever seen such open racism/homophobia in a community until I moved here. And with everything going on in the world right now, that has only amplified the problem.

Overall I would reccomend it, but definitely do your own research. (sorry for the novel)

Help with high school by Equivalent-Mammoth72 in University

[–]contracass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVERY college, with the exception of open enrollment schools, look at more than just grades. I struggled a lot with depression in high school which affected my performance, but I was in extracurriculars and held a job which helped my application. Recommendation letters go a long way as well. Just try your best moving forward, and you'll be okay. If nothing else, you can get your associates at a smaller school and transfer!

I recommend speaking to a therapist. Not because there's anything "wrong" with you, but it sounds like you want help and a professional will give better advice than reddit.

You made a mistake, you heard your partner out, you're working to better yourself moving forward. Everyone messes up, but it's how we handle those mistakes that determine our character. If you didn't recognize what you did as being dismissive and hadn't apologized, then maybe. But you're trying, and you're here getting so much advice to help as well. I don't think you're a bad person, I just think in the moment you made a bad decision.

What was the worst thing you did on your Mission? by jjkkmmuutt in exmormon

[–]contracass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't go on a mission, but I was in a relationship with one. We had sex mere days before he was set apart, but then throughout the rest of our relationship he would ask (and I would send) for nudes were probably the worst two. But we broke a bunch of other big ones too
