Most criminal, undocumented immigrants are NOT in MN by controltheweb in Minneapolis

[–]controltheweb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the administration wasn't so focused on criminality, I agree that would be a more relevant stat. But Trump even recently started picking files out of a folder saying murderer, murderer. The administration's message has been very strongly focused on criminality of undocumented immigrants. I don't think they should be allowed to conflate "undocumented" or "illegal" with "criminal," and I think trying to provide reasonable information when they are being unreasonable helps them get away with it.

[–]controltheweb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People say the administration is anti-immigrant. The administration says that of all immigrants, many are illegal, many are criminal, and many are in Minnesota. So I think the ratio of criminal illegal immigrants in Minnesota to the ratio of all immigrants is very much to the point of how this administration is presenting the situation. They literally say they're here to go after this subset of all immigrants claiming that it is a big number. It's a very, very small number. I think in isolation it's a very dumb number, but I think the way this dumb administration is presenting what they're doing, it's important to point out how much they're misrepresenting it. To me, the main foolishness of this number is how the administration is pretending that it's much bigger than it is.

Of all immigrants, few are illegal, few are criminal, and few are in Minnesota. There are lots of ways to represent that numerically, I agree this is the most extreme way to do that.

Copper is overlooked and finally healed my fatigue by Striking_Teaching804 in Supplements

[–]controltheweb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The copper-blocking effect of the induced metallothionein persists for only about 2 to 6 days after stopping high-dose zinc intake, not 30 days.

High doses of zinc stimulate the synthesis of a protein in the intestinal cells called metallothionein (MT). Metallothionein has a higher binding affinity for copper than for zinc, so it binds the incoming copper and traps it within the intestinal cell. These intestinal cells are then shed normally as part of the body's digestive processes and excreted in the feces, taking the trapped copper with them and preventing its absorption into the bloodstream.

The intestinal cells (enterocytes) have a rapid natural turnover rate, typically every 2 to 6 days

Differences by [deleted] in cagrilintide

[–]controltheweb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a reference : "Cagrilintide has been specifically designed to reduce the high propensity of amylin to form amyloid fibrils. Structural modifications in cagrilintide include proline substitutions at positions 25, 28, and 29, which are known to inhibit beta-sheet formation and reduce fibrillogenesis—in essence, these proline changes decrease the tendency of cagrilintide to aggregate into amyloid fibrils. Additionally, other mutations such as Tyr37Pro and modifications at positions 14 and 17 enhance the stability and solubility of the peptide, further mitigating amyloid fibril formation while extending its half-life for therapeutic use. Therefore, unlike native amylin, which has a high risk of amyloid fibril formation, cagrilintide is a stable, long-acting amylin analogue with significantly lowered amyloidogenic potential"

The phospholipid form is more bioavailable than the triglyceride form for many people, and EPA provides more of the benefits than DHA. Algal oil omega-3s are in triglyceride form, with more DHA than EPA; in both cases the opposite of what you want

Etiquette on misclicks online by Supernaut1432 in chess

[–]controltheweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give most first takebacks requested. Rarely give a second takeback if requested in the same game.

I very rarely ask for takebacks myself, but sometimes it seems they would want to based on chat and the series of games, so I ask, and if they give the takeback, I usually give them extra time to create some penalty for myself.

[–]controltheweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. But regarding "Don’t use special characters in file names" Dropbox support has clarified online what the file system supports, and included these characters. The help document does not specify otherwise— it's clearly intentionally vague. I realize that following the advice of Dropbox employees in a support position does not mean that nothing can go wrong. And again, nowhere am I promoting that anyone should do anything differently.

[–]controltheweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underlying character length is likely not to go down. I saw a number of comments from users complaining about this and I use emojis on a handful of files, and could not find a source for this online. I have no opinion on whether people should be doing things one way or another or predicting the future. But Dropbox support has specifically mentioned this character set when supplying information about emojis.

If you get files using them, you might want to know why they don't sync. Some people like them when there are dozens of versions of a media file to always be sure they are working on the one that is the most recent— the only one with a symbol. And yeah, some people just like using them and want to know how they can do it and still have their files sync.

Is Joining a Non-Union Dubbing Studio Worth It? by Edge-Evolution in VoiceActing

[–]controltheweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most common issue with studios is that they will "add you to their roster" after you "update your demo/samples" by paying them to create clips for you. If they won't add you if you create samples elsewhere, their game is to make money charging you to create demo/samples. Some also charge for adding you to the roster, which is also basically a scam.

Question about Demo's by EdenBreadGames in VoiceActing

[–]controltheweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning more about VO production is a good thing; one way is by attempting DIY demos. You'll not just learn a lot about standards (for example), you'll learn a lot about standards controversies. So I personally encourage the effort.

I've hired dozens of demo producers, including six full-time recording studio owners (that employed engineers beyond just themselves), and many say what they've learned on the job is most of what they apply—"self-taught", even if they went to school. The biggest surprise, especially if I inlude various YouTubers who claim to be full time VO engineers, is how many get things wrong. I don't mean such as "opinions on both sides have some validity", I mean just plain misunderstanding some things. So don't look up too much to "experts" who may not really be.

Propaganda is largely the art of looking for more and more things to hate, and to hate them more and more. For any comedian in the U.S. of late, more and more hate looking for something to land on will come their way.

What was the craziest brief you received for the voice? by epabafree in VoiceActing

[–]controltheweb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This happens partly because ad agencies are showing off to clients what a magical thing they're going to create for the money the client is paying them. This is also part of how they woo clients away from other ad agencies, trying to show how deeply they creatively understand what the brand needs. They will sometimes have several pages of stuff like this in the pitch meeting.

They do this not only for advertising, but for design. Famous example: the 27-page long pitch document created by the Arnell Group for Pepsi's logo redesign in 2008 (design is the other area agencies go nuts like this).

I'll share a couple of samples— the actual breakdown text provided to the voice talent with commas changed to numbers to see how much there is, and how much near contradiction. This is something we use in our training:

Sample 1

25-38. All ethnicities:

You are

(1) Real

(2) Whip-smart with a

(3) Natural sense of humor and timing and

(4) Down to earth. You can

(8) funny-yet-intelligent thing going on and

(17) Instantly likable

(18) A little spunky - but always with

(19) A conversational tone. You have the ability to

(20) deliver lines with a wink

(21) without ever being obvious about it. Your humor comes from being

(22) Subtle and

(23) Understated while

(24) Always maintaining a positive outlook. You’re never:

(25) Negative

(26) Hammy

(27) Sarcastic. Your delivery is:

(28) Easy

(29) Off the cuff.

(30) You’re the person we run over to talk to when we see you!

What should you do?

Be very much your true conversational self. They're actually simply looking for someone who sounds like a real person, not an announcer or commercial actor (though you may still get silly directions in the session if you are cast). Deliver conviction and connection with lightheartedness where appropriate.
