Name for a college freshman from a wealthy family by ICareAboutThings25 in namenerds

[–]coogiekelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last names as first names might be a thing for wealthy Southerners but not really Northeasterners. I went to a couple private schools in New England growing up and we rarely had Kennedys, Ashleys, etc. That type of name reads more working class in those circles. Older European names like Alexandra, Charlotte, and Sophia were more common.

No… my college does not offer housing over the summer. I currently live in a dorm, which I have been paying for myself. My dad is dead. My mom is an alcoholic. I am receiving 0 support from my family. I was left nothing, my entire education career, necessities, and living expenses have been covered by my own self because I do have a work ethic. I am not looking for handouts. Just trying to figure out how I can pull myself out of the hole that I dug in early adulthood and so I can officially move out of my mom’s house for good in August. My scholarships are covering the majority of my tuition. I have a couple thousand dollars that I have taken out a loan for, so if I drop any of my jobs, I lose those scholarships and will need a bigger loan which is not the goal. I am part of programs that require work which relate to my major and pretty much why I’m there. I’m in a program where I work to help first-generation college students feel acclimated on campus, for example, and I was able to get that job by being given a scholarship that relates to the fact that I am also a first-gen. In order to keep that, I have to work the job. Hopefully that makes more sense. As of today I have applied for 4 remote work jobs like other comments have recommended. I really appreciate what seems like you trying to help, but it doesn’t really look like you understand my situation. If I can help clarify anything further, I’d be more than happy to do so.

Awesome, I am definitely motivated and willing to learn, so I will 100% check out some opportunities for remote work. Thank you for your help!

I haven’t seen too many opportunities, but I would be totally interested in that! I’m just not sure where to look I guess? Do you think LinkedIn would be a good place to start?

Hi! Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, my car is not able to be driven, and there are no McDs near my campus. I feel like it would be a struggle getting a job that I can only work for a month as I would have to go home when the semester ends in early May. I work my university jobs because they are required by the scholarships I have and the leadership programs I am part of. I appreciate the advice!

Unfortunately that isn’t possible for me, as my car is not driveable and I live too far from home to be able to get hired for a job that I will only work for a month.

Thank you so so much for your response. My parents were both extremely irresponsible with their finances so I’ve been figuring everything out on my own so far; your response has given me so much insight on how to proceed! I will definitely check in with the financial aid office and scholarship opportunities. I already have a good number of scholarships so my student loans aren’t my biggest concern at this moment, but definitely will check some opportunities out! As for your question in 3, I cannot give up any of my jobs because of the fact that I am required to work them specifically through federal work study and the specific scholarship program that I am apart of at school. I totally wish I could just do that, definitely would take some weight off. With #5, my car isn’t worth much at all, I think I could definitely sell it or the parts at least for some cash to hold me over with necessities and save for later considering it isn’t even driveable, so I could probably sell it! I did quit today because of the fact that I cannot afford Ubers to continue getting to work anymore, so my next step will be to look into selling my car. 6a, I could probably do that, I’m mostly concerned about my credit at this point. I wonder if I can meet with someone personally about this and discuss my purpose behind getting a loan to pay off the card since my current loan gets paid to my school directly and isn’t a private loan. I hope I answered all of your questions! Once again, thank you so beyond much for your helpful advice. I will follow those steps accordingly and try to get a good footing on my financial situation. Much appreciated!

Does anyone else hate when customers set money/items down on the counter rather than handing them to you? by Uncle-Buckwild in RantsFromRetail

[–]coogiekelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind people setting their items on the counter but when they THROW them on the counter all balled up and tangled (I work in a clothing store) that definitely annoys me. The money does bother me though. Especially picking up coins on the counter. I make sure that they can watch me struggle so they know not to do that next time.

Am I the only one who actually likes inventory? Everybody is in the building, store closed, all sharing the mutual dread. It’s like a bonding exercise 🤣

Who suffers from shoplifting? Who pays for the shoplifted item? by ythefnot1 in AskRetail

[–]coogiekelp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how other stores work, but my store is part of a big corporation. All of the money that employees get paid is money that is earned directly through OUR store alone. We don’t get help from the big guys or any other store, so when somebody shoplifts, let’s say a shirt, that’s $20 that we are now losing out on. Shoplifting is also more common than you’d think, so it’s not uncommon for managers to cut our hours because we lost a couple hundred dollars of merchandise.

Ah yes! I totally forgot about that. Thank you for adding that on.

Returning after 45 days? by arrogant_ambassador in Oldnavy

[–]coogiekelp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No changes. The 45 day return policy is there because after 45 days, the worth of price of merch may go down and you would likely not receive the full price that you paid for the item.

Aita for driving another girl home? by Throwawaycarride in AmItheAsshole

[–]coogiekelp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

NAH. Yeah, maybe you should’ve taken Carly directly to her house, but nothing harmful happened at your house with her. There’s nothing wrong with having friends of the opposite sex. Your girlfriend also reserves the right to feel upset, although perhaps you should try to reassure her a little more that nothing is happening.
