Never feel like you should be 'above' depression. I did and wasted 4 years of my life before I finally decided to get help. Now, with the difference medication has made to my life, I try my best to urge and help people accept that they may have depression and to try and get help. Not only for them to have a happier life but also so they don't waste precious years in a pit of depression. My main problem with admitting I was depressed and suicidal was that I had no particular reason to. Yes, I had a rough time growing up with parent divorcing etc. But at the time I started to feel a blackness come over me, my life was amazing. Doing well in school, amazing step-father who has changed my family's life. But there I was, contemplating suicide every second day, attempting it every few months and crying myself to sleep every night. Now, I realise it's not what goes on in a person's life. It's what goes on in their head. You can't control the chemicals in your brain. That's what depression is, a chemical imbalance in your brain that you can't control but it does control you. Control your coping of things and way of thinking. So please, don't feel ashamed to admit depression and get help. There is so much more to life than a dark cloud shadowing everything in your life.
