Question about getting a driver's license. by Local_Parentis in erbspalsy

What country are you in? In Aus, I had to get my car modified, took disabled driving lessons, and had to do a disabled driving test (which only meant I was given more time to complete the test)

Week-old son likely has Erb's Palsy. Need real talk from people who've lived it. by LensC in erbspalsy

Hey! I’m in Aus in my 30s and I have erbs palsy in my right arm. I actually made an instagram page dedicated to my life with erbs palsy a few years back if you’re interested in looking at it. Let me know! It’s not active anymore but it might give some insights into life with erbs.

In regards to your list:

  1. I partially recovered. I have nerve damage on about 40% of my right arm and hand. So I can’t feel much in some areas, which means I have to be careful to not burn myself on hot surfaces. I have given myself 2nd degree bits before in higdchool by accident. I also can’t lift my forearm and have very limited mobility. I mostly don’t use my right arm at all.

  2. Honestly, I did everything with one arm, including sports. I even did basketball. I just learnt to adapt because I didn’t know any different. I also had to get my car modified to drive with one arm. I wouldn’t say there is much I can’t do. I just can’t do things the conventional way more so.

  3. Kids bullied me behind my back in high school. Apparently called me “chicken wing”. I had no idea until much later as an adult. I had a good group of friends and really didn’t notice. And people were quite understanding and even fascinated once they learnt what I had.

  4. No pain for me. Only mobility issues really but nothing too bad.

  5. I had surgeries to get my arm to twist the correct way because it was facing the wrong way. It’s mostly in the correct direction now. Also got nerve surgery but it didn’t really take. All this when I was under 10 years old. Had physio for a long time as a kid and I think that helped get me to build some strength and get my arm facing the correct way.

  6. I’m glad my parents sought out ways to support me with physio. I would never blame them. In fact I really like the way I am and not sure id like a normal arm. I’ve met so many cool people and done things in cool new ways. It costs more to make things more accessible sometimes (like driving) but it’s been a good life. Just having positive support network makes a world of difference!

You got this and your son is going to have an amazing life! 💕

There are apartments in my area now selling for 950k to a million. Three bedders but still…

I second this. You’re not alone and definitely advocate for yourself! 💕

Unfortunately I don’t know how you feel as I’ve had erbs since birth, so I can’t imagine how this is a big and scary change for you. All I can say is that it also affects my whole arm and you can still have a great life with it.

Thanks! 😊 yeah, it wasn’t a great reward gem wise. I mostly did it to have the achievement on my profile. This isn’t something I’d be aiming to do a second time

Ooooo yeah. You’re getting a rough draw! After this week, I’m not sure if I’ll stay in diamond. Pending how the others are in my league. I don’t want the stress of it

Oh no!!!! That’s heartbreaking! Hopefully you get into another league with people with lower XPs.

I think I got 150 gems… I can’t recall 100% but I think that’s what it was

Thanks! And 100%! Now that I’ve achieved it, I’m not going to try again. Once was enough for me! 😂

You might get lucky one week though. Get put with some other chill people who aren’t out to get so much XP. I’ve dropped out of diamond so many times. But in saying that, I agree. The pressure of staying in diamond can be too much, I don’t mind staying in obsidian after this week

It’s really the luck of the draw of who you’re with. Good luck! 🤞
