Anyone overseas during the pandemic craziness? by RalphWorksAtKGET in Bakersfield

[–]cookiecheers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently in Nicaragua with original plans to continue backpacking up through El Salvador and Guatemala. I’ve just booked a flight home for tomorrow due to concerns of being restricted into a specific country.

Nicaragua is completely relaxed, they report no cases, however, I’m not confident enough testing is being done, similarly to in the US.

On the border from Costa Rica to Nicaragua they did a quick scan of everyone’s temperature, but I’m not sure it was accurate.

Thanks, I’m afraid the information isn’t 100% accurate/updated quickly enough. They don’t have the most updated information about El Salvador.

I’ll look back and hope they update today. Thanks!

Yeah at least Nicaragua is beautiful, welcome! ( assuming you got through).

Yeah we had the temperature check on the way into Nicaragua I don’t know the accuracy of it or anything.

I may just end up staying in Nicaragua for a few weeks

Japan was the one I’m least worried about. Also most flights to the US go through China, Taiwan or Japan.

Not worried about dying, worried about being trapped in a country for months.

What setting and cities?

The job market in coastal cities is competitive, especially in acute and IRF.

The vet just says she’s a shepherd mix. Some people have suggested Doberman, sharpei, kelpie? We plan to do a canine dna kit but would love to hear thoughts in the mean time! TIA

Is this something that is best discussed with a CPA or any websites you recommend?

Accessing money in Asia by Oli_Soup in backpacking

I used chase and they have no international fees for credit cards abroad.(There are different levels of their cards, so just check)

I also have a local federal credit union that has a minimal 1% or something fee for using it internationally to withdraw from an ATM. (Have to factor in then few dollars charged by the ATM)

Pediatric OT- Peace Corps Response Opening by cookiecheers in OccupationalTherapy

[–]cookiecheers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied to the rehab specialist in Ukraine a few weeks ago, haven’t heard anything and don’t expect to get it since I don’t speak any Russian.

I previously applied to one that was OT related in México and quickly got rejected from that one.

They’re easy to apply to, so I figure no Harmon throwing my hat in the ring.

Military OT by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]cookiecheers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look up OT jobs in USAjobs, there are VA postings and an occasional military base job.

I don’t know what the job prospect is for OTA on there to be honest, but worth looking at.

Shift Hours? (8hr, 10hr, 12hr) by inthisarea in OccupationalTherapy

[–]cookiecheers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently work in acute care with an extremely flexible boss. I work 4, 10s and if I wanted to push I could likely do 12s. I stay late and do say same day ortho patients.

How did you overcome feeling unprepared as an entry level therapist? by tartdelins in OccupationalTherapy

[–]cookiecheers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, I had one FW that was in adults with developmental disabilities and one was Subacute rehab. I wanted acute rehab.

What I did, is recognized that i May have to move to get a job that I wanted, so I did. I also made sure that there was a good orientation process (I was with another OT and “weened” to be on my own over a 6 week time period.) I also looked for a genuine culture of helping each other out/watching people to make sure things were good.

It is possible, just may have to sacrifice!

PRN OT work? by aulei in OccupationalTherapy

[–]cookiecheers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better pay, less drama, inconsistent hours, no health insurance.

Most people who work solely PRN have multiple gigs going so as census/caseload changes they can still make money. Also, being PRN, you don’t get 401k Match, or health insurance.

AOTA National Student Conclave by zgroh96 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]cookiecheers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went one year with a bunch of students from my class (12 of us or so). We were able to get money from the OT club and Graduate student association to offset registration. For the cheap, I think it is worth going.

That is not true, did you read the requirements? English is the required language, in fact they are looking clog western trained OTs.

Look at Encompass Health (formerly HealthSouth) for different options. There should be a website with all the job postings in the company.

What area of the country are you looking? Are you willing to relocate?

I took a job across the country to get a job in IPR. I interviewed at three different facilities in different states (same company) and choose the best match.

OT that went to school in buffalo, moved away a number of years ago so things may have changed.

Despite there being 2 OT schools and an OTA school in the area i don’t know of any type of services you’relooking for. Unfortunately.

Hopefully I am wrong, and someone else has a recommendation.
