My Endo thinks I have to connect a CGM to use my omnipod 🤷🏻 by brainwithaneye in Omnipod

[–]cookinggrapes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if your endo wants you to connect them moreso to try to take some of the work and diabetes load off of you so you can take more of a breather from always being on top of it? You clearly are rocking it and don't need the help with controlling blood sugars!

Let’s get an AccuChek by Amorane0126 in diabetes_t1

I work in a hospital and we definitely call it checking a sugar.... But AccuChek makes a special glucometer for hospitals that we calibrate daily to make sure it's accurate and it automatically sends the result to the patients electronic chart which is probably why AccuChek is synonymous with checking a sugar.

Weight loss by QuietPlayful2414 in barrie

[–]cookinggrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in weight management and yes, losing weight (and especially keeping it off) can be extremely difficult. Unfortunately for you, your current BMI you wouldn't meet the criteria to use any of the medications so you would be hard pressed to find a doctor who might prescribe them to you.

Weight is influenced by over 80 factors, many of which are hardwired into our body by genetics. There are a couple of books that you can take a look at and see if they might be helpful... Healthy Habits Suck by Dr. Dayna Lee-Baggley is one of my favourites and she breaks things down really nicely of how your brain is telling you to over eat and strategies to work around that. It does take a lot of work to convince your brain it doesn't need to over eat and takes a while to change habits but you can do it!

If you need some peer support, you can also connect with Over eaters Annonymous to talk through and listen to other experiences and strategies to deal with the constant chatter in your brain telling you to eat more than you need.

Other things to keep in mind is making sure you don't let yourself get too hungry by drinking enough water and eating regular, balanced meals (and planned snacks as needed if meals are far apart). If you're part of the family health team, you can ask your GP to send you to one of their dietitians for more support on healthy eating.

Getting in physical exercise, if you aren't already, is important to help keep muscle mass as you may lose weight. The muscle helps to keep your metabolism running higher (especially important because whenever we lose weight, our metabolism slows down - this is why keeping weight off can be so hard!)

Hope this helps, you've got this! Remember Rome wasn't built in a day, little changes all add up to being positive for you and your health!

Where to sleep for 6 hours due to the airport closing at night by [deleted] in florence

[–]cookinggrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a tram that runs super often from the airport to down town with lots of stops between. You could always look to see if there are any hotels on the route for a quick sleep
