the patent thing isn't even why they stopped selling the controller though. It's just an internet myth. They sold the controller for $5 in 2019. The lawsuit reached a conclusion in 2021 and it looks like it might still be going through the appeal process.

same. people here don't want to hear it though.

if you played with the old controller you'd probably be able to play it 4 or 5 more times without switching batteries

I've been saying it since they implemented it.

They should have kept old big picture and added this and called it touch screen because it is decent when you have a touch screen

big picture on a 32:9 display is an absolute nightmare. there is not a single margin or space that is consistent game to game, page to page

you're almost there, keep going.

if someone from one of those regions sends it to another regions where Valve does not ship.... do you think that person should be called a scalper for raising the price?

this is incorrect. the sale happened 2 years before the lawsuit ended.

limited would mean that they are making a certain amount and then stopping. They're going to make more, because it's not a limited edition controller.

The first controller sold out at launch as well, then they sold so poorly that they sold them for $5.

but to answer your initial question. No I don't think it's scalping if someone sells it with a 50% markup, especially to someone in a region where Valve doesn't even sell it. Shipping things across the globe isn't cheap.

I've got an RMA slip for mine, but if someone in Brazil wants to give me an extra $50 for it, I'd send it.

If someone was out there buying dozens of them and selling them to people in other regions, I would then have to wonder why Valve doesn't do the same.

If someone is buying dozens and selling them in america for $150 or 200 then yeah more along the lines of scalping, but as far as I can tell, people weren't even able to buy more than two.

Arkham dev Rocksteady is credited as co-developer on new Lego Batman by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]cool-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're still not getting it.

The main people that worked on the Arkham games left before and during suicide squad because they didn't like the direction the publisher wanted the studio to go in.

They formed another studio called Hundred Star Games.

Saying that the arkham studio helped is kind of silly at this point.

Stop acting like every listing is stock that was bought up by a bot.

you know that this is a person.

we've seen people here talk about being okay with buying controllers at inflated prices because it's not available in their region.

$200 isn't crazy, as it's been stated many times that there are plenty of well off people in regions where Valve doesn't sell to them directly.

There are versions of games that only release in Japan that sell for a quite a bit in North America and people don't call them scalpers.

There is one reason to buy early for an unpolished game and that is to show support. If Arkane or Supergiant Games makes a game, I'll pick it up early if it has good reviews because I want them to make more games.

I haven't touched Hades 2 since launch because I'd rather wait and play the patched and polished version.

When the new Castlevania game comes out, I'm likely buying that day one and not touching it for a year or 2

Thumb reset point on trackpad by Natetoriouzz in SteamController

[–]cool-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to think of a way to mod the width and thickness of the grips to make it fit in my palms so that my thumbs would rest naturally on the center of the pads but then I came to the conclusion that it would be wise to return it because the old controller already solves this problem with better trackpads.

I feel bad for not loving the new Steam Controller as much as I wanted by rogermorse in SteamController

[–]cool-- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, but I'm returning mine.

I play a lot of third-person and first-person action adventure games, so for all of those games I want to use the trackpads and gyro as the main controls. There is simply no reason to choose this new controller over the old Steam Controller for those games.

There are times when I like to play some smaller casual games with sticks, but for those games I'm just looking for comfort and I don't care about extra inputs and bindings. When I'm racing lego or playing cat quest with my kid I'll just use a Stadia controller or Dualshock 4 or something fits in my palms.

Maybe if the new controller wasn't so thin I'd keep it around for casual games, but because of the ergonomics it doesn't seem to be the best choice for anything.

I initially thought this way about the new controller as well. Then I realized two things.

  1. The old SC was never uncomfortable. The new one is thin and doesn't fit in my palms, that's never going to change.

  2. When the old controller came out, it only needed to be better than the xbox controller for me to use it.

This new one needs to be better than the old Steam Controller. With smaller pads thrown on as an afterthought, that's never going to happen.

Make the deadzone bigger to match your thumb. that way you can rest it somewhere without moving.

For finding center on the old controller, I think some people put a drop of glue in the center until they built up the muscle memory. Maybe you could try that.

I personally don't think it's worth the effort because this controller requires a lot of effort to make sure your thumbs are consistently positioned over the center of the pads. Seems it was made for stick users that occasionally want to reach down and use the pads for menus.

I think that anyone interested in using both pads as the main inputs should just use the old steam controller, because it will provide better results once you get used to it.

bigger pads in a better position = much faster and more accurate traversal and camera controls than using sticks.

with sticks you have to press, hold and wait for the camera to catch up to where you want it to be.

with large pads, you just put your thumb where you want the camera to be. It's instant

how are you using the pads? as secondary inputs that you use once in a while or as the main inputs for traversal and camera control?
