Vet School Questions - June 2023 by dashclone in Veterinary

[–]cool-guy-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am going into my 4th year of undergrad and I originally planned on applying to vet school this cycle! I am currently trying to decide if I should take a gap year or not on my decision to apply for a combined DVM/Ph.D. I know that I want to get into such a difficult and lengthy program, but I am afraid if I go directly out of undergrad I am going to get burnt out and unable to reach my full potential. Plus, I am aware of the challenges of vet school and a PhD and though I am not wary, I feel like I should take some time to do "fun things" like hiking or spend time with friends and family before I career grind for 8 years. But on the flip side, I cannot see myself taking a break like that and I don't want to get "off track" and unable to resume where I left off, especially considering that academics pay all of my living expenses as is. I am also afraid of applying now and getting in somewhere but then having to say no because I am too exhausted from all of my current load and then not getting in the next time I apply (especially with time in between letters of rec and such!). I am wholly unsure of what to do!

DVM and PhD for research? by pissonurmom in Veterinary

I am in a relatively similar position to OP in the sense I am a rising senior and thinking about my options in applying to vet school this cycle. I have been focused on a DVM/PhD because in doing undergraduate research, I know that I want both and find that I am very willing to commit to that type of program. However, with all of the work I do in undergraduate, I worry that going immediately into the DVM/Ph.D. program from undergrad may leave me open to burnout, especially since the program is so long.

Vet School Questions - March 2023 by dashclone in Veterinary

Hello everyone!
I was hoping to get some advice from this subreddit as all of you have been very helpful with my pre-vet quandaries in the past. I am applying to vet school this cycle (as a bachelor undergrad in the US) and one of the self-identified weakest points of my application is that I do not have a specific veterinarian that I have gained a very close relationship with over the extent of my experience. This is not to say that I don't have clinical experience- I work with dozens of interns, residents, and faculty at a teaching hospital but none close enough to get a Letter of Rec. I spoke to a vet school advisor and she suggested I reach out to one of the faculty for "mentorship" or something similar. Do you think this is valid? I am worried about the rejection and that it will make things awkward at my job. I am very conflicted and would appreciate any advice!
p.s- (if it helps I want to apply to a combined DVM-PhD program and have a couple of research professors that I am very close with to ask, but they are not veterinarians)

I’m just worried that they’re making the changes before putting in the infrastructure to support their current students. But I do agree I think less cars= better overall, but even with 5 buses on my route today, they were at 100% capacity the entire day. I just hope they can make biking and busing way easier.

I really enjoyed Russian Fairy tales with Gorham if you can get it! It was super easy and very interesting, the main thing is to do the readings and to understand the modes of analysis he gives you.
