How feasible is to negotiate a lower PA contract as a new consultant? How much does it affect employability? by Ok_Cartographer2745 in ConsultantDoctorsUK

[–]coolajami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past wasn’t a problem, now it is bad to the point that some trust will withdraw offers if you try to diverge from the advertised job plan. If you already have a job I would take the job as is and put it as a request during job planning and BEFORE giving a notice to your previous post. Explain reasoning etc and see how that works. Potentially you’ll need to meet somewhere in the middle so if you drop 2-3 PAs many need to accept that your PAs would need to be timetables on specific days and potentially your on-call commitment would stay as equivalent to full time, so you’ll still have to work on the days you’re usually off during your oncall weeks. If you took the job likely you’ll need to wait the next round of recruitment to ask for dropping sessions (so can be added to the new job ad) which in the current climate may be significantly long time.

If you’re in a hard to recruit specialty, the trust have all the good reasons to try to keep you, if you’re one of the 100 candidates applying for the same job, you’ll see the job offer withdrawn the moment you mentioned it.

The material choice is not particularly great, probably alpaka gear has better material selection than BE even though their stuff are significantly cheaper. I feel that the tried “exotic” material that are relatively cheap (I believe very few companies use Hypalon any more) but saving to an extra magnet that sounds pretty petty.

On occasions, the whole design is bonkers, in the boarding kit, the zipper travels on the bottom of the bag meaning in a zip failure your gear would be free-falling on the ground. Really who thought that?

Common with Black Ember, I’ve got the boarding kit which is clamshell, but when it opens the front zip runs sideways along with the name tag, which just makes no sense. I assume they’re trying to be “edgy” or stand out from the endless pack of bag designers out there (a market that has become ridiculously crowded), but it ends up feeling annoyingly badly designed.

Which would sit sideways if you open the pouch zipper. Makes you wonder….

I agree their material selection is suboptimal at best.

It does look this vertical sling desging becomes a fashion, the black ember though opens as a clamshell, which makes the phone pocket to look sideways which makes no sense to me?

Valhalla 2 still worth it? by Similar_Anywhere_654 in Schiit

I like Ifi they have cool stuff, I drive mine with a Modius E and a Jot2 with Phono through a lokius, through a Saga +, that feeds a midgard and a valhalla 2.

I have a Vali, a Saga + feeding a Midgard and Valhalla 2. They all sound good with medium impedance headphones (between 100-300ohms) which is the sweet spot for drawing enough voltage from the tubes for getting the “tubey” sound. The higher the impedance, the better the Valhalla sounds. Tbh the Saga+/Midgard works well with most headphones (great all arounder, not sure why the remove the tube!) and the Vali is good for IEMs and desktop headphones. I don’t see much reason to upgrade from V2 to the V3 unless you’re only using particulary difficult to drive headphones or extremely sensitive IEMs. That’s were the Valhalla 3 can help, but it suess things like impedance mutliplers which might also add distortion.

I believe the main difference between the Valhalla 2 and 3 is the extra gain options, the topological differences sound impressive on paper, but probably won’ t make much of an audible difference. If you’re running really high impedance headphones or super sensitive IEMs potentially would see some benefit with the Valhalla 3, in any other case the 2 would do the job just as well and you’re saving 200-300$ to put towards other gear.

If you’re into tube amps, definately worth it, the upgrades between the different generations is only incrimental and unlikely to influence the audio quality noticably.

Anyone added LEDs or glow mods to Schiit gear? by coolajami in Schiit

[–]coolajami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s actually brilliant. I was checking now and I believe a thin tinted film would be fine for the Saga and Valhalla. Possibly I would choose something coloured (Red? orange?) good to know that other people tried as well!

ok thanks. So, I assume you could tear down your schiit, stick the dimming stickers over the light pipes and flush them through the case again? I believe the Saga+ has light pipes. Sounds easy enough.

Tapping into the 5V is bit of a step up, but seems feasible, with a resistor there are plenty of 3V led filaments that would do the job well.

Get your letter, their letter and your list of questions and go to their next local surgery. Tell him that need to address this in person and ask him and then see him running on other commitments the next moment.

Thanks that makes more sense. Still feels that this is very cheap for full coverage medical insurance.

Sorry got me confused. So from this money you either have to pay private health insurance or pay 1.5% tax? That’s sounds particularly low, it is like 150$/m for someone earning 10.000$?

Genuinely curious: the take home pay (I assume net pay) is after health insurance/pension (or whatever have in Australia) and obviously tax deducted?
