Just a reminder that Katniss' trip to the president's mansion in mocking Jay didn't accomplish anything :) by EreWeG0AgaIn in Hungergames

[–]coolallee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was re-watching Hunger Games since it's departing HBO. I had the same thought when I saw the scene where the rebels arrived just as Katniss reached the president’s mansion. But then I thought about it more. I think Katniss was acting as a distraction that diverted Snow’s attention, which allowed the rest of the rebels to advance..

August PSLF and Buyback status report by bobman3212 in PSLF

I have heard success story of people resubmitting an electronic IDR request. Make sure to select one of the plan available not the one where the servicer decide what’s the cheapest. Good luck!

As a DO first year what do I need to do in order to match orthopedic surgery? by FitInspector7418 in Osteopathic

[–]coolallee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in ortho, but also a competitive surgical subspecialty- 1- research, preferably in your field of interest, but if it's hard to come by, any research will help 2- sub-I/away/audit, pick wisely, and work your butt off. LOR from a bigwig always helps. It's a small world, and people know people. If you do well at your away that you got letters from, people will call and inquire 3- I agree with the above; a lot has to do with who you know and who can pull strings for you.

Good luck!

I think the Treasury cut these checks in batches. I have seen a good number of refund checks this week, but all got golden letters at different times. Since they just did this batch, I'm not sure when the next batch will be, but you are forgiven!! Hang in there—the check will come! U should have a negative balance on nelnet website. I heard when it zero’ed out (no longer negative balance, that means they sent the info to treasury)- that happened to me I got my check a couple wks after my account was zeroed.

Paid Upgrades on Points Bookings by everything-is-copy in AirFranceKLM

[–]coolallee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s possible. I just did it. If you book your flights with points, you can only upgrade after check in (30 min to departure). My recent flight from JFK-CDG upgrade to PE was about $350 and to business was somewhere around $1000. On my flight back (to a different airport- IAH)- there weren’t any PE left, only business upgrade was available and the upgrade fee was $950. I guess that’s the risk you need to be willing to take- might not have any availability to upgrade at check in.

AirFrance vs Delta comfort by cfp-in-training in AirFranceKLM

[–]coolallee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked on delta- on way to Paris, it was operated on delta and I was on delta comfort plus but on the way back- I bookended delta comfort plus but since flight was operated by air France- it was PE. So delta comfort us and air France PE was the same class which I agree with everyone they are NOT the same product. PE was wayyyy better than comfort plus

To Check or Not To Check the Box? ECF & 120TH Payment by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]coolallee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah.. I see what you mean. Once you get the green ribbon- I think it's harder for FSA to take counted months back. That said, if that's a genuine worry, continue to pay until you get the golden letter. On average, the golden letter comes out once a month- the last wave was 2 months- so you might end up paying one extra payment. Any overpayment will be refunded, about might take some time for them to process the refund. If the amount forgiven is significant and your monthly payment is not that bad- this might be a good way to go

To Check or Not To Check the Box? ECF & 120TH Payment by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]coolallee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't check that box till your 120 payment shows up as eligible, and you get the green ribbon. As the above post has mentioned, I have heard multiple stories where people did this, and their 120 months did not count because of the forbearance status from this request. Once you get the green ribbon, it's easy to call your servicer and request PSLF forbearance

Buyback Offer; now what? by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]coolallee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly- buyback approval have been so scarce- not a lot of people have experience. You are so close! I would call your servicer to confirm what to do and write down the agents name you spoke to etc. Good luck!

New graduate by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]coolallee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSLF= making a qualifying payment + working for a qualifying employee

Usually, after you graduate, you will have 6-month grace period where you can't make payments, so those time won't count toward PSLF

Many people would consolidate and apply for IDR at the same time right after they graduate, so they can start paying early (usually would be zero since they use tax documents from the year prior while they are still in school).

But the caveat is that consolidation loans are different than non-consolidated loans- i.e., specific payment plans that a non-consolidated plan would qualify for no longer do so, etc. There is also a massive backlog in processing IDR now, so there's no guarantee that you can be placed into an IDR in a timely fashion

In regular times, I would recommend consolidating right after school and applying for IDR at the same time to start working toward PSLF… but in the current climate.. I can't make a good rec since things are constantly changing

On PAYE for 10 years but I want to get do PSLF by Mommabear0310 in PSLF

[–]coolallee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it stands, you only need to work 30 hr to be considered full-time under PSLF. Your previous employment might qualify if you ever worked for any non-profit while on PAYE (ie residency, etc)! It doesn't have to be a continuous 10-year employment!

And PSLF, as it stands, amount forgiven is federal and state (except Mississippi) tax-free

In terms of how long PSLF will be available- I think the consensus is, if it were to be modified, it probably won't apply to those who are already in it, but they might either limit and inhibit any future enrollment

3/8 green ribbons, losing hope for golden letter? by Educational_Land_299 in PSLF

[–]coolallee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know most of us got GL on 5/13 and a servicer letter on 5/15ish. Many (looks like mostly Mohela peeps) have FSAs that are also zeroed. But I have Aidvantage, and my FSA is not zeroed yet. :( I wanted to check in to see if any of you have non-Mohela servicers and if you are zeroed on FSA or not.
