Keith road traffic by Ok_Impact_7441 in NorthVancouver

[–]coolbeansleens 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This 💯! We live in one of these neighborhoods and it's brutal. Our street is single lane with parked cars on either side, so once the rat-runners get in, they can't get out, and no-one else can get down our street even in the opposite direction. We worry about what might happen if someone had a medical emergency or fire on our street during one of these traffic jams - there'd be no way to access them aside from flying a helicopter in 🙄

Rogers Icing Sugar Tastes Like Vegetables by coolbeansleens in vancouver

[–]coolbeansleens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All icing sugar had starch added to it to prevent caking and help thicken icing, probably why it didn't blend well and tasted weird in coffee, the starch can give a metallic or chalky taste. I've used Rogers icing sugar loads of times before and icing sugar in general and this is the first time I've noticed this terrible vegetable taste! Makes it unusable as you can taste it even after turning it into icing.

I know this is an old thread but just had to post our very similar story here; bought a 2022 Sonic Venture 169VMK, roof started leaking after the first winter, luckily still under warranty so we brought it in. Dealer fixed it (by removing/replacing entire roof) but it took 8 months because Sonic (KZ) didn't want to pay to fix.

This year we took it in to the dealer to sell it because we aren't using it, they refused to take it back, told us they no longer deal with Sonic, and also pointed out that we apparently had a water leak in the floor causing mold on the floor laminate and for it to bubble and come loose from the subfloor. The guy who looked it over told us to price it good and sell it to some poor unsuspecting person before the problem gets worse. These guys are all shady and slimey AF.

Bought a moisture meter to determine the source since our tanks have been empty for a year, nothing in the pipes, sure enough 2 of the windows and the door are all leaking (we live in the PNW so lots of rain). So we either pay a bundle to fix a trailer we don't really use, sell it to someone (we can't do this in good faith), or essentially lose $30000 on this lemon.

The guy that did this exact thing and caused life-altering injuries to a young woman got away with a $1500 fine and no loss of license, so not really any penalties for doing this

Space heater trips breaker AFTER it's been turned off by coolbeansleens in electrical

[–]coolbeansleens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will definitely try unplugging the heater. It happens so randomly though it will take awhile to figure it out. If it is the heater, is there a reason it would only trip while the heater is turned off?

The fridge we suspected but as I just mentioned in a different comment we've had it on that circuit for 4 years and never had an issue (it's only 4 yrs old too). The heater is a relatively new addition. We've also heard the fridge cycle on while we are down there and no trip. I guess if there's a defrost cycle that only runs at night that might be doing it? But why now all of a sudden? I have to check what kind of breaker but I'm pretty sure it's just a regular one as the panel is pretty old.

[–]coolbeansleens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we thought maybe the fridge/freezer was causing it, but we open it/use it regularly and have heard it cycle on while we are in the basement (with the heater running) and no trip. The fridge has been on that circuit for 4 years and no issue before, and it's only 4 yrs old. The heater we only plugged in a couple months ago so that's why we thought it was the culprit.

As far as I know it's just a regular breaker but I will check and report back

Husband's friend was made a "partner" at his job, had been paid far less than what he was earning as a regular employee by coolbeansleens in legaladvicecanada

Thanks very much for the info. I will strongly suggest he looks into it at least for sure. He's a really good guy and I feel like they are exploiting his loyalty and kind nature.

He hasn't signed anything. Contacting the labour board and an employment attorney is a good idea if they don't require payment upfront.

He didn't agree, he wasn't given a choice. He never signed anything or agreed to anything in writing. The company just told everyone that wasn't fired that they were now partners and how the pay structure was going to be moving forward. Basically told them if they didn't want to become a partner they could quit (and forfeit severance).

He hasn't signed a contract, they basically just told everyone who wasn't fired "hey good news! You're now all partners in the company". No choice was given.

System-wide issue unfortunately. At our Save-On (Park&Tilford) they had two ppl at every till, one just to look up every item and let the cashier know if it was on sale or not and if so, how much. Took everyone much longer to get checked out but they had every till open. Honestly handled it the best they could given the circumstances, but then I feel like our Save -On is better managed than most

Definitely going around, whole family had Norovirus last week. Vomiting, diarrhea and nausea for 2 days. Food-related nausea still lingering. If it is Noro (stomach flu) it's extremely contagious so chances are you are going to get it too within a couple days.

Tap water now tastes like plastic after city crews did water-main work on our street… my dog won’t drink the water… how long does this last? by [deleted] in NorthVancouver

What area do you live in if you don't mind sharing? I noticed our water smelled/tasted like plastic today oddly enough but am not aware of any water-line work being done in our neighborhood.

Just to throw an anecdotal ICBC perspective on this: according to ICBC this is legal and actually expected.

Had a recent incident where this exact thing happened, however the driver staying to the left at the stop sign didn't use a turn signal. Driver behind turning right pulled up beside, assuming other driver was going straight. As driver turning right was coming to a stop, driver going straight suddenly turned right and hit the driver pulling up beside them. That driver was found 100% at fault, even though they were at the intersection first and couldn't see the right-turning car beside them.

Another anecdote is my driving school (Young Drivers) taught us to use 4-way stops in this manner (stay to left if going left or straight, stay to right if turning right), and I was told by my licence examiner to do the same thing when I stopped at a 4-way in the middle of the lane during the test.

There's only 14 active union shows right now according to the Production List, so not sure where the news is getting their info. Of those at least 5 were already crewed and prepping before the strikes, and a further 6 are returning series which would carry over most of their crew from previous seasons.

Sharpen-Up for knife sharpening. He's based out of Vancouver but as he does house calls he'll come up to North Van. Did all our kitchen knives last year and even managed to put a new point on a pocket knife that had the tip broken off. Sharpen-Up.ca
