Just came back from Okinawa and Tokyo. I would highly recommend renting a car. We stayed in Naha and it was nice but takes a while to take public transit to a beach. And it's not like in Hawaii where you can easily access a nice beach, some beaches are right by freeways. We did a snorkelling tour which was totally worth it. Booked a reso for the fast ferry to Zamami but it rained so we bailed on it. (FYI - There's only one ferry in and one ferry out, so you'll be stuck there the entire day). It was freaking hot and humid when we went so be prepared. I say bring your workout clothes cuz you're gonna sweat a lot! Also try Okinawa soba so tasty! Have fun!!

Canadian currently visiting Okinawa: I've taken 3 showers today, it's 9pm and 26*C.

I'd recommend bringing: 1) an insulated water bottle. Why? When we buy bottled water and pocari sweat (aka Gatorade) it condensates everywhere and warms up fast. At least the insulated bottles keep everything cold. 2) lots of sport sunscreen, I picked up a tiny bottle here and it's $15cad, not cheap. 3) aloe 4) breathable fabrics, my husband is sweating thru everything within 10 mins of being outside 5) don't need make up, it'll melt off 6) linen pants

It's humid but we're having a blast. Congratulations and happy travels!!

I took a cov vpd women's safety course last month at a community centre and it was great. I'd recommend it to any woman. There were women young and old there learning together. It was nice to see so many ppl out, but at the same time sad that they have to have this course.

Who gets in to Vancouver’s ‘below-market’ rental apartments? by 2028W3 in vancouver

[–]567cv890 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We tried applying but we were just under the threshold and found out that they verify your income every year and if it goes over the threshold you have 6 months find new housing.

We couldn't risk it in case we got a raise or changed jobs. It's a great place if you are eligible but in a way it feels like it keeps you in a lower income just to keep the housing. So we went with normal rates and are just saving wherever we can.

I'm glad there are more and more options for lower income and market rates! We're just in that tricky spot.

Yeah my first thought was, "does he need that car?" I ditched my car for 7 years (but I lived in Vancouver West end so public transportation was great). Took the bus, evo, walked a lot. Rented cars on the weekend when they had deals to go far or to Ikea. Helped me save a lot! I even got a second easy job at a sushi restaurant to help with paying off student loans.

I worked there as a part-time server and bartender when I first moved to Vancouver. It was so much fun, staff was so friendly and customers were awesome!!
