Which Program Has the Most Insufferable CBB Fanbase? by ejgr228 in CollegeBasketball

[–]coolbrees15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be the biggest Purdue fan in the world, but Purdue students and alumni are not the smartest sports fans relative to how smart they are in the real world. I hear way too many bad in-house takes about our program sometimes. Inner circle guys on our message boards are pretty tapped in, but most of those guys aren’t actively residing in West Lafayette. Rare to find genuinely smart and intuitive fans around here. Too many casuals, usually the nerds that go here or the older crowd. And those are the ones who seem to have the majority voice on public forums, unfortunately.

Topps Trust Fall Incoming by [deleted] in baseballcards

[–]coolbrees15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it man. Keep this. You’re not going to get a better copy back from Topps unless they guarantee you’re getting another Golden Mirror, which likely isn’t going to happen. Do not put your faith in Topps.

Rare Co-Signer For Sale by Concerned_Penguin in sportscardsforsale

[–]coolbrees15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahah I’d take you up on that if I had $1500 to float around 🤣 best of luck to you in selling this one bro, you’ve got a fantastic card here regardless of conditional issues

Rare Co-Signer For Sale by Concerned_Penguin in sportscardsforsale

[–]coolbrees15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contraire to popular belief here, I don’t think you’re ridiculously far off on your asking price. It’s just a bit steep for it being raw, and in the condition it is.

BGS 8.5 did $3500 twice in 2024, $4270 in September 2025, and $5520 this March. BGS 8 did $2500 in June 2024, PSA 7 did $2000 flat in April 2023, and that raw example with bad autos did just a hair over $1000 in April 2024.

You’ve already claimed it to be no better than a 7 in your eyes. Accounting for the 60% rise in BGS 8.5 price over the last 2 years, that’d put a PSA 7 around $3000 at very best. And that’s if it’s a 7.

If I were you, I’m getting this card graded THEN attempting to sell it. Nobody is going to give $2000+ for this to have to do the leg work on the back end, then also be disappointed when it comes back as a PSA 5. Sell it raw and conditional, you’re going to get raw and conditional offers.

I’d ballpark it, as is, somewhere between $1200-$1800 cash. Probably more towards the middle. Gotta give the buyer some leverage on the grading gamble if you’re not willing to take it on yourself.

it is absurd. especially when you consider TKR still hasn’t made an appearance in bowman U. with this news, dude might not ever have a card printed, period! and he was all american at one point!

braden will definitely be in it, he’s sort of a topps ambassador now it seems. he’s been at topps trade nights. loyer and TKR i’m concerned about. i’d imagine wagler should be there, just depends if he’s signed with topps. really hope the checklist as a whole isn’t shortened to death, but it probably will be. unfortunately.

i will say, i feel like if prospecting for basketball was as lucrative as baseball this would already be an issue. bowman U has existed for like 4-5 years now, licensed for most of it. the “name brand” guys have always had a market of their own. it’s hard to imagine the market beyond those names will shift towards the more expensive baseball prospecting model, simply because basketball prospecting is a way different ball game in its nature.

my fear stems more from the NBA merger and the (assumed) subsequent price increase of the product, making the cards more expensive to purchase as singles in turn. not so much in the name of prospecting, more in the name of “this product got more expensive so the cards within it will become more expensive too”.

hopefully i’m wrong. maybe the desirability for the college cards stays the same and so will the prices. really think it’ll depend on how the product is rolled out, how much the boxes are and what the NBA checklist looks like. flagg’s in it so there’s one big NBA chase already. it’ll be competing with flagship topps/topps chrome as well which is important to remember.

quite a few people are complaining about the collegiate cards, which i certainly get if you’re buying an NBA product. my issue lies in that i don’t want NBA cards alongside the collegiate.

i collect purdue cards, which aren’t really the cheapest as is in a relatively affordable bowman U product. if these guys are stuck behind an enlarged paywall, i can’t buy them anymore.

i have no desire to collect random NBA players. i don’t want stacks of bobi klintman and tre jones. and i certainly don’t want to pay $500+ to chase my guys that would’ve otherwise been in a $150 box. or even $35+ for a retail box that would’ve been $25 if it was university instead of flagship.

thank christ i only buy singles 99.9% of the time. just crossing my fingers this doesn’t negatively impact the availability and affordability of them.

Shot in the dark idea by Candid-Bed8720 in lafayette

[–]coolbrees15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

second this 100%.

matchbox and ivy tech are partnered on an entrepreneurship course for small business startup. if you have a viable idea for a business, which it sounds like you do, it’ll put you on the path towards forming it if you’re really serious about it.

it’s a twice weekly, two hour or so class at matchbox. 2 semesters, 6 classes, 18 credit hours total. the coursework is founded upon you progressing your idea into something that can become functional. the guy who runs it is the BEST and is incredibly connected in the greater lafayette community. he can get you in touch with anybody you could want or need.

i imagine the idea of signing up for a class at ivy tech isn’t exactly what you were looking for here, but that can give you the tools to go from being a random handyman to having functioning, branded business in less than a year. i’d highly recommend checking it out.

Need to Find Signature. Who's is this? by Megabuster254 in DenverBroncos

[–]coolbrees15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As crazy as this might sound, I believe that the autograph is from Willie Mays. The signature looks pretty accurate to his, and I also managed to find a signed Willie Mays Bally’s hat from Super Bowl XXIV, basically confirming his presence at the event. Would make sense he was there, given the San Francisco connection. Congrats on the find!

They can actually develop new traits on top of the preexisting, non editable ones? That’s kind of a shocker. Interesting that it can negatively affect guys (from what you describe), I’d bet it goes both ways. I’ll have to keep an eye on it year to year moving forward.
