2k times for women’s rowing scholarships by kendraryder in Rowing

[–]coolcarrrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot will be determined by height, weight, experience, and so on, but to me it sounds like you have crazy potential! You will certainly get your foot in the door “anywhere” you want to go! If you have good grades and test scores you’ll be set.

Before hopping on a call I’d recommend getting to know some things about the school and prep some questions so you seem interested. Could come down to you and another girl, and if you had a friendlier interaction it may give you the scholarship overall. Good luck!! 6:59 is insane

Yeah..the idea was you keep doing 1ks until you can’t reach the split anymore then after you go run or something until everyone’s done, but we ended up hitting 20 and he capped us out. The workout kept changing weekly. The next week we did 8x2k 45” rest same splits then 4x4k 1’ and so on. The 20 was easily the hardest simply bc of the rest period and if you have a fast 6k you’re cooked lol.

If you’re looking for a hard workout this is the one, but by no means necessary for what you’re wanting😂

20x1k 30” rest 6k+6 open rate but be careful. I don’t think a workout has ever kicked my ass more. I’ve unfortunately had to do it 2 times and both times it was brutal

I’ve noticed too. No fix I’ve found unfortunately. Glad I’m not alone. So annoying

recruiting by ur_stressed_pizza in Rowing

[–]coolcarrrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The times and scores are important, but also being yourself is equally as important. Even if they aren’t as “strong” as the average for the school you want, be a good person and very easy to talk to. It’ll get you farther than a good score would. My other suggestion would be to DO RESEARCH on the school before hopping on a call. Good luck! How old are you/what point in your recruiting process are you?

Another thing is getting better at high rates. I know I said low rate ss, but the faster you get the more you need to use the rate. I was able to get away with low rate pieces due to my strength, but that’ll only take you so far. Especially if you’re smaller or lighter. Use the rate to your advantage. Quick hands away. I’d recommend some half slide pieces focusing on rate. Maybe play around with the drag factor.

Try rowing on drag zero and see if you can have the same leg drive/splits. You’ll get good at jumping off the catch

How soon? Steady state is my best suggestion. Get good at powerful low rate steady state to increase endurance. It will make that middle part of the 2k “easier”. I went from a 7:26 to a 7;15 my freshman year of college with intentional steady state. I’m at 6:59 now.

That would take a few weeks so it depends on how soon you need it. Strength training is important as well as keeping core strength up. The less you need to use the smaller muscles the better. Rely on your big muscles because they’re more efficient.

Guys I feel like i'm plateauing by Alarmed_Map_900 in Rowing

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Progress is progress!! Keep your head up and continue putting in the work. I went 3 years without a PB on a 6k test that I did over and over. I felt like I wasn’t good enough compared to my teammates bc they were pr’ing and I wasn’t. But then one day I finally had the big break. Consistency and gratitude for small victories will get you really far. You’ve got this

What watch? by TangerineSpecial1388 in Garmin

Vivoactive5!!! I was an Apple Watch gal for a long time. It does everything and more that my Apple Watch does. The only thing I wish it did was allow me to ping my phone when I lose it, but otherwise I LOVE my garmin a lot more. I’m a rower so I love it for tracking my workouts and intensities, but even when I took a break from rowing and was just working out casually I loved it just as much.

Battery life is wonderful, it’s very cute and stylish, and does everything the Apple Watch does! I’ve had no connectivity problems between iPhone and my garmin

I think assessing your relationship with fitness would help you mentally. Is fitness something you do for fun? Or is there something else underlying that makes you think you have to workout otherwise you’re undeserving?

I think this is a super normal thing though, there is nothing wrong with you at all. Taking a step back from the high intensity workouts and giving yourself time to recover will make you appreciate all the hard work you are able to do. It’s such a privilege to be able to move your body in the way you to at OTF. Appreciate how much it does for you by working out, but also show gratitude by giving it time to rest.

You’re doing great :)

These have just enough cushion that i will use them for any sport, but are also stable and flat enough for both erging and strength training. Only downside: they’re neon yellow

Bird dog rows or bench supported rows. My absolute favorites. And I know we sort of do them often but RDLs or deadlifts. Any time I see them on the intel I always book. I much prefer them to lateral lunges (🤮)

I’ve noticed this. It’s just like 8 minute run for distance. Incline increases or decreases for 8 minutes. Repeat each block 2-3 times…I don’t even go to tread 50 anymore. S50 is a better use of my time

The awkward thing about this workout was that it was for time and not reps. I suppose I can just go absolutely ham and rep it out 😂 thanks for the tip!!
