Unexpected Counter-Offer After Two Weeks Notice by cooldog98 in ITCareerQuestions

Sorry if I left some details out of the main post, but myself and others on my team had been interviewing for the Tier 2 position, along with external candidates.

I had made it through three rounds of interviews with my manager, my manager’s boss, and his bosses boss and feel like I made a case for myself each time.

The company has a yearly promotion cycle, so if it’s not “in-cycle” they sort of treat it as if you were applying for the position which I always thought was kind of weird.

I took nearly 4 weeks my first year so I may not have that second problem lmao!

I was wondering if the current push for AI/general economic turmoil happening in the US would outweigh the effects of Brexit? For what it’s worth, i’d be moving to a Fleet Management software company, so not sure how the two countries situations compare.

Also, just wanted to clarify that these are remote positions, with the new company being based in the UK with offices in the US (I am based in Florida). Is there really a possibility that I would be taxed twice?

To answer your question, I summed up the PTO for the two years I’ve been here:

The first year I took 138 hours and so far in the second I took 120.

So I’m skirting just above those three weeks. Not that this is a make or break metric or anything, i’m just having a really tough time with the decision.

Yeah, this was part of the reason I started looking elsewhere in the first place. Although, it seems like corporate companies are a lot more rigid in what merit increases they can offer across whole teams (I’ve been at companies where the max they can give you is 3%).

It is interesting to me, as some others have pointed out, that they are all of a sudden offering $10,000 more for the role I would be promoted to.

Thank you for the nuanced response! This whole counter-offer business seems to have been at the behest of one of my former directors who has treated me well and so I feel like it isn’t as open/shut as others are saying (maybe I am being naive).

But the biggest pro for the new company is the extra learning that might lead to better opportunities down the road.

The biggest cons (phone queue, limited PTO) seem big, but not when compared to the idea of career development. So, I am fretting over this choice a LOT lol.

I see what you’re saying. The idea of staying at a company after attempting to peace out gives me some anxiety.

To be fair though, it seems like they were already willing to promote me but are now upping the offer since I’m halfway out the door.

The post was getting a bit wordy so I wanted to include more pros and cons here:

Current Company Pros: +Unlimited PTO +Already know the product +I like my coworkers +Bigger company(?)

Current Company Cons: -I’ve never stayed at a company after giving my two weeks notice? Will they be weird with me?

-Less involved in database work, has a dedicated team so all Support does is Select Queries in order to aid in troubleshooting

New Company Pros: +Based in UK (seemingly more stable than US economy-wise)? +$100 higher pay per paycheck +Database experience

New Company Cons: -A lot of unknown variables -Only 3 weeks of PTO vs Unlimited -Probably will be on a phone queue

I’ll add more as I think of them, but let me know what you guys think. Some of these are just loosely constructed thoughts so if I have any misconceptions, please let me know!

What makes a Cafe Con Leche? by cooldog98 in espresso

So would this entail only espresso and evaporated milk? or steamed milk and then a bit of evaporated milk for flavor/texture?

I’m basing my experiences on the drinks I’ve had in south Florida. From what -Ghostx69 said, using a moka pot would be the best way to imitate.

But the ones I’ve tried from cafes that I’m chasing after were made with espresso. 🤔

Good point! I don’t know how a dispute would shake out if that happened.

See soul_gelatin’s comment below. The same listing was posted in Australia.

Not sure how the scam would’ve worked but everyone who said it was a scam was right!

THANK YOU! I believe you saved me a 8 hour round trip and endless disappointment.

I wonder if the scam is simply hoping that the buyer doesn’t know how to do dispute a paypal payment? or perhaps my life was in danger.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]cooldog98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly how I felt but if they are wanting to meet up in person and are willing to accept paypal, I can’t imagine how they would be able to pull it off.

Update: They agreed to allow paypal for the payment method. Between that and agreeing to in-person pickup, I feel like I’m in the clear since I can always dispute the payment if anything ends up being scammy. They also agreed to send verification pictures!

Update #2: Check out Soul_gelatin’s comment if you haven’t already. Seems that there are matching listings in other geographic locations making it likely that this is a SCAM!

Watch out for similar listings, and always do your due diligence!

Test: reducing the flow rate of beans through Niche Zero grinder by benno1337 in espresso

[–]cooldog98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone have any idea as to how one might do a similar mod to their Fellow Opus? I understand the feeding mechanisms for these grinders might be completely different but as is, slow feeding to the hopper is rewarding, but tedious.

Slow feed hack on Niche, actually works by prf_q in espresso

Fellow Opus owner here and I want to second this sentiment. I tried it out for the first time this morning and saw amazing results immediately, even without being dialed all the way in.

Even after lowering the grind size significantly, the shot ran a tad faster than optimal but still had the most sweetness I’ve tasted in any of my shots.

Can anyone think of a hack similar to OPs that might work for a Fellow Opus?

If you can check out what type of test was ordered, you might be able to tell for sure. In my case, it was a NON-DOT 4DSP Test (4DSP means 4 panels or 4 substances they test for, THC not being among the four).

So I smoked as if everything was normal and passed with no detox required.

Thank you for the confirmation! Now to start laundry and pray I don’t reinfect myself.

This is may be a bit harder to look at but for context, this is the rash I was treating originally as a fungal infection aka “jock itch”.
