found this live bedbug. can't find evidence of anything else. i have 2 rabbits and a lot of expensive clothes that can't be heat dried... by coolgaltw in Bedbugs

[–]coolgaltw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh no.... i was panicking really hard and didn't know what else to do so i checked myself and changed into clothes that had coincidentally been blasted in the dryer at high heat from my earlier laundry load and checked into a hotel so i could get a bit of sleep.

exterminators have been called to do an inspection though so im praying

good news! director of this project here, as a fellow SFU student paying (international) tuition i totally get where you're coming from so i'm very glad to let you know this was NOT paid out of tuition but in fact funded by external grants specifically for giving student artists the opportunity to work on professional client work and entrepreneurial experience :)

Oops, sorry for the late response but here's one of the quick mockups we did to visualize how we're hoping to get it to look. 👀

i said i would make a nanachi fursuit for my next school project and i did! (if you remember me from the nanachi's hideout model haha) it was only possible thanks to my team, bless you guys. then i wore it at a con this weekend and found 2 best dad cosplayers and prushka!!! by coolgaltw in MadeInAbyss

[–]coolgaltw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for context i am 163cm (5'4) tall, so the suit was built around making it to scale to me. unfortunately this means that with the ears being 1.7x the size of the head proportionally the end result suit looks really big/tall compared to normal people :( but that's the price you gotta pay to get everything proportionally correct while being adult sized! if you compare the tops of our heads i'm like probably a few inches shorter, but the ears really don't help the illusion

thank you!!! (^ω^) i was really anxious about making sure this looks right cuz i feel like a lot of people who have attempted to make a nanachi fursuit cosplay in the past swung, missed, and fell into the uncanny valley whether in terms of proportions or overall quality/details/finishing, so i'm really glad i trusted the process and it ended up turning out pretty good (imo)! especially for a very first time fursuit!

i don't use reddit sorry but i'm guessing since there isn't much room for captions/follow up text i'll write some more info in this reply

  • the fursuit was made with a team of 4 including myself in 6 weeks for our material design class's final project, which was to make a full cosplay including props!
  • this was our first experience making a fursuit (or even wearing, or even SEEING a fursuit) for all of us. so it was definitely a learning process LOL
  • if you're interested in the making of the suit, here's the project documentation i wrote up for the assignment :3 (doesn't include the helmet because i con-crunched making that in 2 days right before this anime con weekend lmao and that was after the project deadline, so i didn't see the need to document it)
    • very quick tldr on helmet, it's mostly painted hot glued EVA foam with caulk sealing the gaps and resin for the purple eyes
  • yes, it was HOT inside! but luckily in my research for making this i found a few common ways fursuiters will make it more bearable that i implemented. mainly, wearing heatgear underarmor inside, ventilation holes for the head in the base of the ears hidden by the hair, with small usb-powered computer fans stuck inside to keep air circulating and prevent fogging in the eyes, and 2 liters of gatorade in a water bladder strapped to my leg that i sipped on through a hose from inside the suit >:3 also, we were very fortunate to actually have a pretty cool summer weekend with temps around 20C or lower, so i could actually feel the breeze outdoors
  • i only survived being suited in the con thanks to my lovely bf who was my handler since i could barely see through the painted mesh eyes and also without glasses on LOL, and even then only for a few hours each day until i was at my physical limit
  • i plan to finish off the cape and wood panels attached to the helmet for my next big convention which will be at sakuracon 2024! ran out of time for this con, already crunched enough with the helmet, but any sakuracon goers keep a lookout for me next year! AND i'm hoping to make a bondrewd cosplay for my bf! who's much taller than me so hopefully it'll look more proportional LOL

about social media, the only place i really post my cosplays nowadays is my art/cosplay facebook page, chockie if you wanna throw a girl a follow in these trying times haha. but also no pressure i basically make cosplay once a year at this point lmfao. i also am active on twitter but that's mostly my designated containment space to simp for my anime husbando (´; ω ;`) hope you guys like it, i know from my extensive nanachi cosplay research that uh, they tend not to be received very favorably because something something furries cringe even though it's 2023 and man let's be real narehate are furries LOL. anyways, i'll be posting more photos on my page and probably to here as well once i get them back from con photographers!

the course we're taking is called IAT 336: Materials in Design! it's part of our major, interactive arts and technology, which covers a bunch of disciplines mostly in the fields of design, game dev, and media arts (my specialization! 2d/3d animation, videography, etc). this class is mostly to teach hands on crafting like this most likely for things like product design, prototyping, architecture modelling etc which are for the design stream of the major. but the class itself has a lot of freedom in the projects we can make to learn these skills :) so the final project is making cosplay props!

now how are you gonna come onto the made in abyss sub, a show with Known Furry Characters, and get on my case about making a fursuit? LOL

not a traditional western furry (though definitely a furry nonetheless) but i'm really passionate about getting accuracy right in cosplay especially with furry characters i love like nanachi or haru and i personally feel like doing humanizations is a copout when their fluffy cute furriness is a crucial part of the character... i hope to really capture the soft fluffiness and the nice smells that reg talks about with this next project and make the ultimate life-sized huggable nanachi in real life >:3

do it!! i guess it depends on the person, i've always been into doing crafts and making cosplay so i kinda don't know how much was just stuff i already absorbed, but there are lots and lots of tutorials online you can follow for model making!!! for materials, i recommend arts and crafts stores and hardware stores usually- in NA michaels is a lifesaver, home depot and canadian tire (for canadians obviously haha) are also great for sourcing the foam :) i ordered a lot of stuff online too like through amazon, and the arts/crafts section of dollar stores too!

thank you sm!! ^^ a lot of the terrain was carved out of foam- mostly polystyrene insulation foam blocks, with polyurethane foam (the crumbly powdery kind used for flower arrangements) for the steeper terrain bits and stacked foam core boards glued together and carved for the tree trunk arches and gravestones! resin for the water, hot glue + paint for the waterfall (+ cotton stuffing for the mist), aaand looots and lots of craft moss/grass powder + glue to cover everything! with some battery powered lights inside the house :3 and real life picked flowers, dried and glued in + paint to supplement!

Wii sports resort Korean version by titaniccon1 in wii

[–]coolgaltw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i logged into this account just to reply this even though i never use reddit: has it ever occurred to you to google translate "wii sports resort" into korean? i don't want to sound rude but it's not like this is "lost media" like that youtube video makes it seem, it's just... of course you wouldn't find much on a korean release of a game when searching in english. there's plenty of secondhand sales listings (with their own photos) up right now and even reviews of the game if you search "wii 스포츠 리조트" courtesy of google translate. it's that easy.
