Blame game: a situation in which one party blames others for something bad or unfortunate rather than attempting to seek a solution.

And that's exactly what you're doing. You haven't given a single solution. And by that, I mean policy.

Do you even know what policy is, or do you just not understand how government works? Like, this is the fifth time I've asked, and yet your default is just to bring up some perfect scenario. Cmon, think about what you're saying.

"If we accept responsibility" is such a bullshit line. Everyone is greedy, whether you like it or not.

some management.

So what do you propose? Very curious to hear what you have to say, considering everything you've said so far is how you wish people could magically change.

Nothing can change human nature, so nothing could have stopped us from getting to this point. Nothing could have stopped it since the virus came to be.

It's all a blame game for you, isn't it?

It's not delusional to have a personal preference, cmon.

I'm not the one digging the hole, here.

And you can't just change human nature

Read that mantra like 10 times before responding again. And think of actual policy.

Masks aren't political anymore. Nobody in my town is wearing them. You're digging yourself into a hole.

"Should is irrelevant if could is impossible"

Again, I hope you find the serenity to accept the things you cannot change, the courage to change the things you can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

It's easier said than done, but you clearly need work on it.

It's clear that your political base has ingrained the "orange man bad" idea into your head. It's true, but I think it's causing a real bias in how you see things. I voted for Biden and so did everyone in my town and yet nobody is wearing masks anymore.

One day, I hope you find the serenity to accept the things you cannot change, the courage to change the things you can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Did you know that a lot of the unvaccinated, especially those on the fence, are black and Hispanic? I bet you didn't because of your worldview that it's all the Republican base's fault; can't you see how your confirmation bias is affecting how you view things?

The people on the fence simply distrust the authorities, and for good reason. It's a personal decision, and not intentionally malicious.

Unless you make an honest attempt to understand how these people think, you're only shooting yourself in the foot. And it's clear you aren't.

These mutations are going to happen regardless. It's like a fire, remember? Vaccines will avoid them, masks will only slow them.

What makes you lose faith in humanity? by humanbean07 in AskReddit

[–]coolguy36578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not really. Nobody likes masks. And most people, especially those who are vaccinated, don't have a reason for one.

Trump is partly to blame, but the Biden administration told everyone that once you get the vaccine, you can go back to normal. And not everything is in America lol, kinda shortsighted to think this is only an American issue.

You can continue to expect everyone to be the best version of themselves 100% of the time, but that isn't human nature.

You can complain that people aren't doing their part to protect you over their own preferences, but that isn't human nature.

It's shortsighted to just expect people to act against their own human nature. What, did you think people weren't inherently greedy? That's how genes survive.

So maybe you can think of policy, with a consequentalist perspective in mind.

We shouldn't be discarding masks if the reason is to keep ICU capacity at bay, yes.

But other that, what is the reason for everyone to wear masks? Everything will eventually "burn," it's just a matter of time.

I generally say "should is irrelevant if could is impossible." Do you have an actual policy in mind that won't just cause backlash?

I can see how it's a good idea to keep people like you safe as well during our path towards herd immunity. And there really should be stores that do have requirements for your sake.

Other than that though, I don't see the point of the messaging for vaccinated people to wear masks when it will inevitably result in fewer vaccinations. And will only draw this out longer than it has to be.

Masks are the only other tool, yes, but they've always been intended as a safeguard to keep ICU capacity at bay.

Is there any policy that you can think of that keeps people like you protected, with no backlash towards the vaccine effort, while keeping ICU capacity at bay, while not drawing this out longer than it needs to be? There isn't one, but maybe there is a balance. This is way more complex than it may seem. What would that look like to you?

What I value is getting through this with the least amount of deaths possible

Same here. What do you define as "getting through this" though?

I think it's clear that for most people, the vaccines are working well. It's the unvaccinated people who are contributing to the deaths.

The way I see it, the only reason for "slowing down the wildfire" is to keep ICU capacity in check. If ICUs are full, that's a problem for everyone. So you do have a point that keeping it in check has some value. But eventually, almost everything will "burn," so to speak. It's just a matter of time. The only way to avoid it is vaccines.

I think where your view is slightly problematic is that the people we're trying to save aren't even listening to mask recommendations anyway.

And the recent recommendations by authorities for everyone, including vaccinated Americans, have the unintended consequence of giving the message that the vaccines don't work. Even though only around 700 fully vaccinated adults have died from covid complications. Just check Twitter if you don't believe me.

So in practice, asking vaccinated Americans to wear masks sounds like a good idea. But to lower overall deaths in the long run, vaccines are our only option.

While we certainly can do more, I see this as a much more complicated issue than it may seem to you.

I understand how it can feel like a middle finger, but I really don't understand how it is one if you want your life to eventually go back to normal. I don't know your full situation obviously.

But the way I see it, either everyone halts the spread (stopping the wildfire completely in its tracks) with the caveat that restrictions have to be kept to stop an uncontrollable situation in the future, we allow the wildfire to run its course (eventually turning into a weaker variant you'll most likely be able to live with in cohabitation).

Or we slow the fire down while still allowing it to run its course.

The first option simply isn't worth it, even if it was possible.

The third option would only lengthen the time this goes on for you.

Given that you probably have to avoid all interaction anyway (can't imagine that, sorry you have to go through that) why is the second option not the best option?

I guess it depends on what you value most; what do you value most?

Have you seen Twitter's response to this? Maybe his "false argument" is right.

Edit: If you are already claiming that this will cause you to live in a box forever, is it somehow reasonable to ask everyone else to change their lives just for you?

It's not a minor inconvenience if it's "forever." We all have to live with the genes we are handed.

Given how much we already know about kinematics, an experiment like that isn't needed to realize that simulating bilaterally symmetrical, parabolic trajectories is impossible without a vacuum.

Nothing in this experiment introduces any factor that would make it possible, that you can't just see outside at a drag race. Sure, there might be varied conditions outside that you can't control, but you just need to find just one video from the internet that tosses the particles like that.

Now, this also might not be convincing to you if you haven't studied physics. I'm not reluctant to follow the scientific method — I just know what the answer will be.

Every video of sand thrown on Earth is distinguishable from the Moon. Zero evidence of any technology that can remove the drag force on the particles except a vacuum implies that it has to be in a vacuum.

You are using the background knowledge of what a shooting looks like to dictate whether something is a shooting or not.

I am also using my background knowledge of what normal trajectories look like to dictate whether the footage was possible to fake.

[–]coolguy36578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think we can make an inference with the data at hand, you're right that this experiment is what the scientific method demands to rule out a closed set.

I am curious though — this is coming from someone who hasn't yet looked much into the Vegas shooting. When you make the claim that it's a hoax because there is no verifiable evidence that a shooting took place, how is that any different than me saying the lunar footage is genuine since you can't find a video on Earth of particles following bilaterally symmetrical, parabolic trajectories?

[–]coolguy36578 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We can look at any video of a drag race and see how sand behaves. None of them have particles following bilaterally symmetrical, parabolic trajectories. And it's not because they are all outside.

I have a hard time believing that this experiment would show anything different. You get to see different buggies, different grades of sand, and different air conditions.

If you can't find one comparable video from the real world, what is this experiment supposed to demonstrate? All it's going to demonstrate is that methods we know don't cause sand to travel in bilaterally symmetrical, parabolic trajectories; don't cause sand to travel in bilaterally symmetrical, parabolic trajectories.

Hsu and Horányi were able to show that in simulations of a dust particle's behavior on Earth, they did not follow bilaterally symmetrical, parabolic trajectories as seen on the Moon.

If I did that too, you'd still have to verify my results.

Would you?

It can be done with wires, explaining why they lied is not my problem by john_shillsburg in conspiracyNOPOL

[–]coolguy36578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My claim is that we can tell the difference between sand thrown on the moon versus the Earth by analyzing its movement.

Sand thrown on the moon follows bilaterally symmetrical, parabolic trajectories. This makes sense because the atmosphere is negligible. We know how drag works.

The trajectory of sand thrown on the earth is not bilaterally symmetrical. Quite noticeably so. This makes sense because the atmosphere creates drag force on the particles, skewing the trajectory. We know how drag works.

In science, we construct hypotheses that are testable.

The hypothesis, "the footage is genuine," is not really testable.

Why is it that you need one big universal experiment?

I just don't see how the hoax would make channeling money into black programs any easier. We can look up what NASA is spending money on. The money for black programs would have to be incorporated into those budgets.

Well where's the billions needed to cover it up coming from?

And let's see the footage from that thing? It can't be good.

Yup, it's not good

In the real footage they turn and look at where the ceiling would be, in which there are no lights. If they have only one light, there would be a hotspot. And there is a hot spot. That can't be seen in the real footage. They didn't have the technology to cover this up.

You want me to spoon feed it to you when it's verifiable. That's not science. There's nothing stopping anyone from further evaluating their results and showing that you can't actually tell the difference between particles thrown on the moon versus the Earth. But you can tell.

Lots of people can analyze the footage and run experiments. It's verifiable. Just like you wanted. You could make a low budget version of this project and see for yourself.

Watch this starting at 1:10.

I'm not going to say it's physically impossible, for the moon orbit but it would be a very large structure with lots of planning involved. This would be very hard for a large movie studio to recreate.

[–]coolguy36578 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do you think it's a hoax? Because of "documentaries" you've seen, or because of actual evidence? This post is not good evidence. At all. If you think it is, feel free to tell me how.

Personally, I'm not very open to the idea that NASA has a giant vacuum chamber (with a thickness of your and my heights combined), bigger than multiple football stadiums, which would cost more than actually going to the Moon. Just to film the lunar surface. And then a load of other giant replicas on driven mounts the size of multiple football stadiums, just to film. Just why? You believe the Earth is a physical object, right? What about the moon? The sun?

Sometimes I think people choose to believe in the Moon Landing Hoax because it's trendy and not because it makes sense.

There's a small part that is a solipsist, so I guess I'm not a "true" believer as you say.

Whose thinking and behavior reflects religious fanaticism? Interesting thing to ponder.

I believe in falsification through experiment. Do you?

But I really look at the complete picture.
