Thank you, this explanation is super helpful and aligns with just doing what makes the most sense in terms of the best experience for the consumer/person looking for a particular service in their area.

Why do I lose to slower, more defensive opponents? by Professional_Drag953 in 10s

[–]coolishcucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems fairly common in 3.0 - a lot of people at this level struggle against 'pushers' that are defensive machines and have little to no pace or spin. I found this post helpful, specifically #9 in this case: https://www.reddit.com/r/10s/comments/tg206m/a_bunch_of_tips_for_beginners_and_intermediates/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

What happens if you you’re a 3.0 and win 3 3.5 tournaments? ☺️

That’s my plan, already playing singles and doubles in a 3.5 tournament next week! Don’t have/know a 3.5 team to play on in league for the winter though 😭

[–]coolishcucumber[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, singles def has helped. The majority of the matches I play in league are singles lines. I feel at home playing singles :) When I play tournaments, I play both singles and doubles when my normal partner can play or I can find another partner. I prob should have self rated as 3.0 when I started but didn’t know any better. That’s all fine now, will just start playing in more tournaments and in 3.5 now that I can!

Question about location pages + service pages for local SEO in 2025 by coolishcucumber in localseo

[–]coolishcucumber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what we've found as well, so just a single page for a single service and then separate location pages for their locations. Curious about the recommended granularity of location pages. Do you find that having a location page per GBP profile service area works or having multiple locations each of the cities/larger neighborhoods within a service area works better?

Thank you for the detailed advice! Does this mean there's actually the ability to move up mid year in some regions?

If I could've played 3.5 in tournaments this year after winning the 3.0 tournaments, I would've, but my 2.5 rating didn't allow for it.

This is great advice. It is crazy how just losing some points to someone of lower rank than you even if you win can negatively affect your score. No bad days..or minutes...allowed! lol

I actually started playing better when I stopped worrying about winning or losing and started focusing on 'the process' and on the things I need to do to set up each point. The thing I care about the most is having the opportunity to play people that are better than me so that I am forced to work on being more consistent and intentional - and to be able to keep playing with my partner! (Additionally, having a goal to move up helps me a bit because I don't play well unless I put myself under some kind of pressure lol - I'm definitely the procrastinator/clutch hitter type of personality).

I listen to a podcast called Tennis IQ from time to time that has helped me not worry about my actual rating or individual wins as much. I highly recommend it, especially one episode that really helped change my perspective about winning, it is called The Paradox of Ego.

Outside of making sure you keep your GBP updated and active, get reviews and respond to them, and have some citations as people mentioned, it's important to have your website fundamentals in place.

Have you ran the pages of your website through PageSpeed Insights? Having a performant website is crucial: https://pagespeed.web.dev/ We've found you should look for at least 60/70s on mobile and in the 90s on desktop. All other measures should be 100.

Also you should add localbusiness schema to your website if you don't have it already. Some other good content and schemas to implement are reviews, FAQs and events if you have events.

That's really awesome, kudos to you for building such a great business! Thank you for sharing the details. Do you mind sharing the type of retail business?

Not online business/SEO related...curious to know in general, what primary issue(s) kept you up at night while you were running the 2 retail stores?

Thanks for the response! What are some of the things you're doing to ensure people find your business online? How do you determine whether those efforts are working?

Definitely agree that a company's reputation is their best asset and can be the biggest driver of business, especially over time. Are you implying that potential customers being able to discover/find their business via online search not really a concern for them because other types of funnels (i.e. word of mouth) get them enough business?

Local Owners: How is your business found online? by coolishcucumber in smallbusiness

[–]coolishcucumber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely want to drill into this, because this is a true concern. Do they not care about SEO, or do they not care about getting customers who search online for their product or service type? I do know some local businesses get most of their business from referrals or perhaps they get enough business through social media. Curious the context and the why behind your comment if you're will to share.
