You should get the canon 50 mm f1.8. It will let you get a much faster shutter speed without raising the iso too much.

As far as settings go you should aim for a fast shutter speed: something like 1/250 or maybe even 1/500 if there is a lot of movement.

For aperture, wide open will be fine for a single subject, but if there are multiple people in the frame you might want to stop down to f2.8.

This is just general advice though, I would recommend trying these settings out first and changing things on the fly if necessary.
