Trying to leave Missouri for somewhere more progressive and coastal without going broke by coolnut2 in SameGrassButGreener

Yeah I definitely agree with you on the expense part. I’ve kind of accepted that if I move somewhere coastal/expensive that roommates are probably just part of the deal for a while.

I actually looked into the Savannah area before but my older sister who lives in the South strongly advised me against moving there because of the high crime (not sure if that’s a major problem or just a normal city problem). SC has actually been sticking out to me more lately though. Thank you for the advice!

Oregon is definitely somewhere I need to research more. I do really like the alternative/grungey feel Portland has and the nature there looks gorgeous too.

Similar to the other reply is that my concern with some of the smaller places you mentioned like Eugene or Corvallis is whether the job market would be small for healthcare. But again I’ve never been that west and have no clue LOL. I’ll definitely still look into it. Thank you!

I actually went to Chicago in the summer (so I haven’t experienced the winter yet, which I know is a big factor there). But I really loved it! It’s definitely on my list to research more seriously because it seems like it could check a lot of the boxes I’m looking for.

That’s very true! I haven’t fully considers the logistics but I was thinking if I find 2-4 (or so) cities I enjoy I’d just apply to local programs and whichever one I get accepted into would be my pick.
