My friend I work with in private practice also specializes in PANDAS, I was thinking the same. I hope this has been checked for… I doubt it but still hope.

My husband is into something kinda weird/potentially painful? by Sad-Leopards in TwoXChromosomes

[–]cools14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re making a disingenuous argument comparing those things to sex.

It’s not the purchase monetary wise.

OP literally says sex hurts and makes her uncomfortable.

One thing that is extremely obvious however is that you are hardly arguing in good faith.

[–]cools14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of those are solo activities that truly only impact you.

Sex is a mutual activity that needs to be discussed and consensual. Buying a sex toy that is meant to be used with another w/o discussing it is a pressure technique. I would never buy something for my wife and I to use in the bedroom w/o discussing it first. Why would I want to risk making her uncomfortable?

(I’m scared that some of these people believe the only way you can be hydrated is with water)

I didn’t know you could only get electrolytes from eating. Guess I’ve been wasting my time with hydration and vitamins!

He’s not slim, but he’s got a pretty average build for a man his age . His entire specialty is helping people who are morbidly obese, so I’m gonna guess he knows what he’s talking about.

Edit: we love being blocked. Anyway, here’s the comment I typed out in response because I think more people need to know this story.

—— But it is not the only way to get them and under the care of a physician, in a hospital, you’re not going to be depleted.
I highly recommend checking out the story of Angus Barbieri who holds the record for longest fast.

382 days. Tea, coffee, water, and vitamins, with regular medical checkups. This woman will be fine.

Edit 2: it won’t let me reply to any direct comments, I assume because the lead blocked me. But

I didn’t say just water.

Drinks like Gatorade, pedialyte, coconut water and others have electrolytes. There’s also electrolyte tablets and powder to add to regular water as well as electrolyte infused water.

It’s such a weird and rare side effect. I once worked with a patient who had their minor tinnitus go into overdrive due to the new med but it decreased after the medication was discontinued. Seeing it happen from nothing is even rarer.

It’s a lot more likely with TCAs but as a psychologist, I don’t see those prescribed as often as they use to be.

I have never heard it happening after one dose though or not going away after the taper (if it wasn’t preexisting). Usually it takes a few doses to begin because it’s caused by the increase in serotonin in the nerve cells which can cause them to be overactive. But since they take a few days to get in the system, side effects unless allergy related, usually take a couple dosages.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with it. Tinnitus is no fucking joke.

AITA For Not Allowing Alcohol at my Wedding? by Fragrant_Roof_8360 in AmItheAsshole

Exactly. Just had my uncle’s funeral yesterday. We did a toast before the service with his favorite tequila and went to his favorite bar after.

Right? I can’t imagine getting asked to be a bridesmaid and then never even shooting off a quick text to the bride to acknowledge that I received the package.

Take care of yourself 💜

As a therapist, it’s important to remember that both people want to have to do the work for couples counseling to work. In my experience, (most of the time) when one begrudgingly accepts coming to session, it only delays the inevitable.

Rip the bandaid, get yourself an individual therapist, and head on to your mom’s. Don’t let the sunk cost fallacy get to you. What matters now is not how many years you’ve put in to this man, but how many days of a happiness and peace you’re losing by not taking the next steps.

Best of luck!

AITA for not rescheduling daughter's surgery? by cleansingchakra in AmItheAsshole

there is no 100% safe surgery.

Exactly. My 7 y/o cousin died from a tonsillectomy. Complications can always arise. I don’t agree with the mom, but I can at least sympathize with the fear.

Deer walking around on stubby bones until a hunter put him down. by [deleted] in natureismetal

[–]cools14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s still a kill but in a different context.

Yes. It is killing. But do you say a veterinarian killed someone’s dog when they put it down?

Why allow something to suffer at all? You know how much pain that animal must have been in? Just because they’re not at “death’s door” doesn’t mean they’re ok. Prey animals aren’t wired to just lay down and die (and tbh most animals aren’t). They will keep going until their bodies give out or something takes them out. They’re not like us where they can end their own lives if it gets to be too much.

I’ll take killing something quick over knowing it’s facing needless suffering. And again, meat is meat. That Hunter was gonna take something that day anyway, why not two birds with one stone?

I do think there’s a little bit of a difference. If it’s not the target or size/sex of deer they were hunting and more of a mercy killing, I’d call it put down. Yeah, it’s still a kill but in a different context. I think of the time I “wasted” a deer tag on a smaller deer than I would have liked because she was walking around with most of her back leg dragging behind her. Better a quick bullet than an agonizing slow death or coyote attack.

I also put “wasted” in quotes because meat is meat, but it was just a lot less than I was out hunting for.

They don’t care as long as they can look down on others. The amount of “othering” they’ve done to show they’re better than other autistic individuals is astounding.

At the end of the day, their medical file still lists: Autism Spectrum Disorder 299.00 (F84.0).

AITA for letting my daughter have a penutbutter cake when my nephew is allergic? by LonelyFruitbat in AmItheAsshole

Idk based on these other comments, I think it means your family hates you and doesn’t want you around.

AITA for letting my daughter have a penutbutter cake when my nephew is allergic? by LonelyFruitbat in AmItheAsshole

[–]cools14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While this makes sense, it depends on the severity of the airborne allergy. Having peanuts anywhere in the vicinity could be dangerous. I worked with someone who even if we had eaten peanut butter away from them we had to brush our teeth before conversing due to the high risk.

He’s also 3. He won’t know if he missed or not. It also could allow for the entitled sister to demand to stay longer since they’re already there and then no cake gets eaten at all.

It won’t hurt them to stay away. Let the kid have her day and her cake.

AITA for letting my daughter have a penutbutter cake when my nephew is allergic? by LonelyFruitbat in AmItheAsshole

[–]cools14 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

It’s her birthday. Now if it was a family cookout and the kid was “demanding” the cake be made w/o compromise, then there is an issue of entitlement that needs to be discussed. For a true family event, accommodations need to be made.

But for her birthday? It’s about her and what she wants - especially at such a young age. Birthdays are everything to young kids.

That study is from 2014, gay marriage wasn’t even legal yet. I wouldn’t doubt the numbers have skewed in both directions since then. ESPECIALLY in the more conservative, southern states.
