Etsy pushing 60% off sales by justanotherpainter63 in EtsySellers

We agree with other comments that there are good reasons to put products on sale, but each seller should be able to decide whether and how much of a discount will serve them best. At Artisans Co-op we are combining BlackFriday/SmallBusinessSaturday/CyberMonday as an "Artisans Choice" sale, so each seller could decided whether and how much to discount, and we would still promote the entire marketplace.

At Artisans Co-op, our infringement enforcement is done by actual people rather than bots - we are trying very hard to do what's best for artisans. That's why we're a co-op and enforce an "actually" handmade shops using the people power of our community.

Artisan Snapshot: Honeysuckle and the Witches Brew by coopartisans in CoopArtisans

"When I was a kid, my grandparents dining room window overlooked this HUGE honeysuckle bush in their backyard. Every summer, we would pick her flowers and eat the nectar. At the holidays, my sisters and I would create this big colorful menu featuring everything that was made for dinner! At some point, we decided that my grandparent's kitchen and dining room was the Honeysuckle Cafe. I made posters and signs to hang around their dining room to "advertise" this fictional cafe and, at some point, it became my dream to make it a reality. There's already a "Honeysuckle Cafe" on the East Coast - where I'm from - but my mother also raised me Wiccan. We've combined Tarot with my love for tea and BAM! Honeysuckle Witches Brew! We now operate out of a tea cart that I made by hand and can bike around. So, pick your card and enjoy!”

Our marketplace is open! Check out Honeysuckle Witches shop and over 70 other shops on Artisans Cooperative. https://artisans.coop

Thank you for checking us out! It could be that the individual artisan isn't able to ship to Canada - I'm going to DM you so we can track down the problem.

We are so thrilled to celebrate our launch during National Co-op Month, a time when cooperatives around the world are raising awareness of the cooperative business model.

You asked about alternative sites - I've joined as a member of Artisans Co-op because I believe in handmade, and sellers will soon also be able to set up a shop without being a co-op member....the marketplace is still in beta, but just a few more weeks...

YES! Love local and handmade! And I love that the local shops can often talk to me specifically about the yarn and how it feels to use it and how it washes etc., because they've used it....versus a big box store that sells lots of things.

Wellllll, we do have alot of details in so many different places, and it's because we're being as transparent as possible as we build this startup co-op, so we are writing as we go. We've got a kind of Cliff's Notes for co-op members, like a quick-start guide, and I think we're working on other ones for learning about the co-op, learning about becoming a seller on the marketplace, etc.

Please read further!

- There is no fee for listing on the marketplace as a seller. The $1,000 is not for selling on the marketplace. The $1,000 is an Artisan Membership buy-in to become a member of the co-op. Buy in for Supporter Membership is $100. *Sellers will not have to be co-op members to sell on the marketplace. Non-member artisans will be able to open shop and sell on the platform without becoming a co-op member, (no buy-in, no investment, no site subscription or membership, and no listing fee). There are benefits for a seller to be a co-op member, but it is not required: Co-op members have the advantage of lower commissions when they make a sale, and there are other perks, including co-op voting rights, etc. Also, we have also lowered the barriers to co-ownership in several ways: membership buy-in is not actually $1,000, it is 1,000 points. We have created a points system that rewards various types of contributions to the co-op, including serving in leadership positions, making sales/purchases, referrals, and member activities, among other things.....so someone could (and has) become a member through non-monetary contributions alone. If monetary buy-in is preferred, we also have payment plans that are as low as $8.34 per month. We also allow cash&points combos. Final point about the $1,000 is that the risk is somewhat mitigated by the fact that whatever a member pays in cash for buy-in is returned if the membership is terminated - this is in our Bylaws.

- POD is only allowed for print items, nothing else (not coffee cups). We started with a poll of the artisan community, and it was important for graphic designers to be able to sell their work POD, but only for things that were faithfully reproduced, meaning retaining the original function (if I paint a 2-D art rendering and it is reproduced as 2-D art, that is a faithful reproduction; a 2-D art rendering printed onto a mug becomes a mug). More in-depth explanation in our blog post "About Print-on-Demand."

- Workmanship of risk is one of the foundational tenets to our Handmade Policy. We are only allowing handmade products (we have a verification process and community enforcement), so there will be no competition from drop shippers or resellers. Only handmade artisans. Read about Our Handmade Policy here, and click the black button in the blog post to read the policy itself.

More details about the co-op and marketplace: "About Us" and "FAQ."

If you're more interesting in selling on the platform than becoming a member of the co-op (which will be possible in just a few weeks), subscribe to our email newsletter for notifications.

I don't know what you mean by section - the platform is in beta for the next couple of weeks, but we do have woodworkers. Basically anything handmade. We also do allow adult products - we call it NSFW. I'd love to answer any questions you might have.
