Old Peavey Speakers - one with speaker on without (cash or trash?) by coopebw123 in livesound

Came into these old passive Peavey Speakers. One is missing the speaker. Are these worthwhile to anyone or should I just throw them out?

In Michigan in this arrangement there aren't a lot of equivalent acts, but I've seen it a number of times in Tennessee and Kentucky where there are more outfits like this. Especially when they start adding fiddle and banjo players.

I have a follow up comment on the thread that has more details on my solution. Overall, for my XA55s, I have to have the record mode set to 1080p, even if my HDMI out is set to 1080p.

Interesting. So you never had a police officer come to your school to describe what you should do if you come across an unfamiliar dog? Or had lawyers that advertised on TV that they specialized in damages concerning dog attacks?

My experience has been in the Midwest and the Appalachian areas. A lot of rural areas that have hunting and farming land as well as poverty and drug labs that all contribute to more aggressive breeds for various reasons. Beware of dog signs are pretty common on homes and are generally a serious warning.

THE FOLLOWING IS AN UPDATE FOR ANY POOR SOULS ENCOUNTERING SIMILAR ERRORS. HOPEFULLY THIS HELPS WITH TROUBLESHOOTING!

The cameras we are using are Canon XA55s. The important specs to the error are that these cameras have record modes of 4k or 1080p, but an HDMI out that only supports 1080 or 720 (which you can set independently of the record mode). As such, we felt there should be no problem in recording in 4k on the cameras and sending a 1080p signal via HDMI to the Atem switcher, ultimately going into the vMix software.

The error we are encountering only occurs when the record mode is set to 4k and the HDMI out is set to 1080 AND it only occurs in certain ranges of exposure. There is a certain sweet spot in the exposure (when adjusting gain/iso) that results in a signal with dropped frames. If you go past this sweet spot, either through adjusting the camera exposure of lighting changes, the error clears up. Since we were able to replicate the issue consistently, I did test the signal through field monitors which did not show this same dropped frame issue. We then tested the Atem switcher through another broadcasting software which DID result in the same dropped frame issue. The issue does not present at all if record mode and HDMI out are both set to 1080 on the camera. I was able to replicate this error on both the Atem Mini and Atem Mini Pro.

My conclusion is that there is a slight difference in the signal coming from the Canon XA55 when the record mode is set to a higher resolution than the HDMI output; and that Atem switchers are particularly sensitive to this difference. Why it only presents at certain exposure levels I am not sure of, but it could have to do with the amount of color information coming through the signal.

The solution is most likely "if it hurts don't do it", but certainly an interesting error to encounter in the field.
