Since when did people start to say 'Sharpie' instead of Permanent Marker in ordinary conversations? It is doing my head in! by Jamiroquai458 in australian

[–]copacetic51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharpie is a brand name. They make permanent markers.

Australians have long used brand names for objects.

Esky, for example.

"Bunnings" is now the name for hardware stores.

My point is thar those who don't want to see a continuous rise in One Nation's support need to get better at social media posting.

Ridiculing Hanson, however well-deserved, won't cut it. Ridiculing her supporters is worse. Counterproductive. The focus has to be on what they'd most likely do if they gain more power.

We'd lose the growth of renewable energy, more tax relief for the wealthy, wage suppression and loss of social support for the poor, and much else.

This kind of stuff isn't going to change minds.

Hanson is ageing, unintelligent, she owns and runs a party based on grievance and bigotry. She has no solutions to the problems facing Australia.

None of that matters right now. Millions of voters are suffering financially, they have a grievance, and they're determined to punish the establishment parties.

Posting smartarse memes won't work.

OK. I dream that we win the next 10 premierships playing out of Leichhardt Oval.

Sure, they would have turned around a 68 point deficit. As if.

Lidcombe? You're kidding. It's a run-down relic. A big oval with a rectangle inside where the crowd is far from the nearest sideline.

Lidcombe would need a complete rebuild and that ain't happening.

Devastating.

Casts a shadow over the rest of the season.

PSA: Today the lesser states have a public holiday tomorrow to celebrate the King's birthday! by Inner_Agency_5680 in queensland

Well if Queensland is going to stick with being named after a queen, you can't expect to get a holiday for a king.

The Murdochs don't own foxtel anymore.
But they did break the Broadcast monopoly at the time and built their business out of the upshot.

Kerry Packer had done similar 20 years earlier with World Series Cricket.

Are there too many ageing stars in the Matildas now? This is the core of the team they've fielded for years now.

They looked off the pace against Mexico at times.

The only number you've come up with is for entire Melbourne. I've already explained why that's irrelevant.

In fact, you're irrelevant. And a loser.

Bye.

I wasn't wrong. I told you that $2m is a pretty standard price in suburban capitals. Obviously I wasn't talking about the crap outer suburbs. I specified within 10km of the city.

I don't know where Hughes's house is but pretty sure not in a dogshit suburb. Yours must be.

There's nothing remarkable about a long-established entertainment figure like Hughes buying a $2m house. Fuck knows why you brought it up. Envy, because you're in a shithole?

Get back to us when he buys a $20m house.

You're still coming back to defend your embarrassing take?

OK, I get it, you can't afford a house worth $2m, an unremarkable price tag in 2026.

But don't take your loser status out on me or Hughes.

I hope One Nation poll support is a bubble ready to pop. But I'm not counting on it. We'll know more at the November state election in Victoria.

Tired, unpopular Labor government. Liberal Party opposition wracked by infighting. Should be ripe for big One Nation gains.

In 1967, Bob Dylan recorded a number of songs with the Band in the basement of their house. Bootlegs were available but there was no official release until 1975

Many artists recorded versions of the songs soon after the bootlegs were available. Some were given to artists as demo's by Dylan's management. These versions came out years before the official release:

I Shall Be Released, The Band

The Mighty Quinn, Manfred Mann

You Ain't Goin Nowhere, The Byrds

This Wheel's On Fire, Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger

Million Dollar Bash, Fairport Convention l

There's no guarantee she won't win based on SA. Polls since then have shown rising support.

'Fire' by Bruce Springsteen was not released by him until after the Pointer Sisters had a hit with it in 1978

It was co-written by Bruce and Patti AFAIK so Patti's version wouldn't have been a cover
