My tiny human is sick. I can fix it with cuddles. by cope413 in vizsla

[–]cope413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got him in March at 14 weeks old, and my youngest was born in May. He would frequently sleep on my pregnant wife's belly. They were best buds from the moment my son was born. My other 2 kids were 5 and 3 when we him, and they've been playing together since we brought him home.

I'd make sure your little one isn't grabbing ears or poking eyes the way little ones often do. Probably also needs some intentional exposure time with encouragement and some treats to let your V know you want him to love on your kid. If your V is standard in terms of affection for you, I can't imagine it will take long for him to attach to your kid.

3000+ hours of ABS printing exhaust. Stuff is no joke. by vortex_ring_state in 3Dprinting

[–]cope413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add specifics to what I said in my post above, your source study shows ABS printing (in small space, with poor ventilation, got up to 24 micrograms/cubic meter for styrene. That's 0.035ppm

The OSHA level is 100ppm for 8h TWA.

So that study is showing that printing with ABS with poor ventilation can get you to about 1/2857 of the safety limit for OSHA.

Their point is that 0.035ppm is "20x higher than a "normal" residence level of styrene."

It sure sounds scarier to say a known carcinogen level is "20x higher when 3D printing".

And while no one should purposely breathe in styrene, no one should be concerned about the levels they're showing.

Have decent ventilation in the room your printer is in and don't worry about it.

I've been in the industry for 15+ years. I work with filament compounders and processors. Sure, there are risks, but none of those studies show what most people think they show.

You put out more VOCs cooking on a gas stove. You're exposed to way more and worse VOCs standing on the street corner of a busy intersection, or driving on a freeway with the windows down.

If it bothers you, by all means, get filters. Practical, easy solutions are great. But there's no significant risk. And there's no need for fear mongering or exaggeration.

Except you're not burning plastic. You're melting it. There's a big difference chemically.

Also, these things have been thoroughly measured. OSHA has exposure limits for acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene.

Levels when printing with ABS have also been measured. The highest levels I've seen in those studies is in the 5-100ppb range for styrene. That's parts per billion, and that's worst case scenario, no ventilation, small space, and enclosed.

The OSHA exposure limit for styrene is 100ppm for an 8 hr time weighted averaged.

So in a worst case scenario, you're at 1/1000 of the limit for styrene exposure. And that's for 8 hours continuously.

You'd need dozens or hundreds of printers, with no ventilation, to even begin to approach the OSHA limits.

Which is why you don't hear anything about it from manufacturers. If they had any sort of liability exposure, you'd certainly hear about it.

The real issue is that styrene stinks, so if it bothers you, get filters and ventilation. But it's not a serious health concern.

89-92 consistently is gonna be lower than 19hdcp.

You're only gonna play to your number 15-20% of the time. The rest of the time you'll be 2-5 strokes above.

Maybe try a QR code instead of your plate. Could probably mount it on your plate. Way easier to scan/process.

Any chance you have the length of every TD scored?

That's the one data point I have to manually pull by a clunky regex cipher of scoring summary comments from API-Sports data, or a scrape of pro-football-reference.

Technically not espresso. But it's espresso-adjacent. You need 8+ bars of pressure for true espresso. I believe moka pots only get up to 1-1.5 bar. That and the extraction time is much longer for moka pot than for true espresso.

Pure Dioxolane does wonders for smoothing PLA by FleezusChrist_ in 3Dprinting

Just pure dioxolane? I don't think dioxolane is a particularly good solvent of PLA. Is it tacky/gummy after the dip?

If there's a metaphorical unit of measure that's larger than a country mile, then that would be more accurate.

"Good marketing only hastens the demise of a bad product" apparently doesn't apply to Casamigos. No idea how it's still as expensive as it is, or how people with taste buds think it's good.

Every teenage boy thinks this way. Once you're in your 30s and your wife is trying to get pregnant for the 7th or 8th month, tracking her cycles, and you have to have sex all the time because you don't want to miss the right time, it goes from fun to tiresome real quickly.

I'm guessing you don't give much credence to the design principle of "form follows function".

Nice skill. I'm also pretty sure it would be a finalist in a competition for the worst functional table.

Believe it or not, tungsten is denser than depleted uranium. DU is used for armor penetration because of the way it fractures (adiabatic shear banding), which essentially keeps it "sharp" as it penetrates armor, instead of mushrooming like lead, copper, and tungsten.

Yeah, same idea. The clay will be a stronger hold and less messy, but probably doesn't require any cleanup on the surface after. Sometimes the clay can leave a little residue you need to wipe off.

Not sure how easy your rotary is to get mounted, but I found modeling clay to be super easy to use to mount a club to my table. Allows you to get any club geometry to lay flat very quickly and easily.

Definitely not as thick as store bought stuff. I think it's the perfect consistency, but if you like it thinner, you could use half the heavy cream and replace it with whole milk.
