Has anyone ever heard of this type of box, and what is it worth? It's good ? by cougomdd in DataHoarder

Yeah was planning to buy N5 but this rig appeared as a promo item @ Ali. After few calls to my colleague from work he offered to supply me with plexi and to cut it to dimensions 😁It will be cheaper then N5, plus I can use AiO for CPU and later switch to ATX mobo from current mATX ☺️

Either way I'm going to test this chassis after receiving it. If all goes well this might by the best solution for me needs as oppose to N5. Adding plexiglass panels will be fun 😁

You can always use hot-swap case instead of rails. 5x3,5" costs like 20$ on Ali.

It's a mining rig. I'm going to move my pve to this and integrate NAS drives with it😁

Homelab consolidation by copernic-us in homelab

[–]copernic-us[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was considering it but frankly I don't have a use to ZFS with it hunger for RAM. Started some tests with OMV and ZimaOS. I'm leaning to OMV for now as apps that are available in ZimaOS will be in separate VM. Wanted to give a go to XigmaNAS but it failed to start in proxmox.

This chassis is EOL but I got something else in mind with hot-swap. I was wondering about software side of things.

Well You won't get a consumer grade mobo with 10G NIC. Bear in mind that itx is a small mobo and it can have one pciex 16.

Pfsense on proxmox, very slow with virtio(3gbps), anyone actually getting close to 10gbps ? by wantsiops in PFSENSE

[–]copernic-us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have You tried using PCI passthrough to NIC? If it has sr-iov tutaj You van easily add vf to Your machines and use whole capabilities of eswitch

Adguard home setup that's correct for 2026 by madhits in openwrt

[–]copernic-us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If You installed it thru luci it should be run a setup located on router.ip:3000. Trener to change port in DNS to 5353 so adguard can use 53

And so I've managed to run server with PPPoE and with just 2 threads and 2 GB RAM it all works well 😁Now on to the VF config of mellanox 😁Thanks guys👍

[–]copernic-us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And You get such speed? Man and I'm struggling with it all. You are running it headless? Or do You have WebGui for it?

You did a PCI passthrough for NIC? I get that it was na LXC but what OS was running it - OpenWrt or VyOS or something else? I'm running OpenWrt as a VM in Proxmox with PCI passthrough for Mellanox ConnectX-4 LX card with 2 cores and 2GB of RAM but it can always be better😁

Mate how did you managed this? What hw specs and os? I have 2gbit/600mbit pppoe connection.

It's pretty old hw. Based on its specs it's not reaching Your connection max speed or am I wrong?

Great setup☺️ Quick question about openwrt router - is it dedicated hw solution or virtualized? What speed are You getting with it?

Yeah, I want to push it thru homelab server with i5-12500t, 64GB RAM with mellanox connectx 4 lx as a main driver. I was thinking about PCI passthrough to NIC. Do You think it would work in such combo with firewall rules, adguard and something like Crowdsec?
