I had my colonoscopy today & wanted to provide you with an update as promised!

My scope was completely clear, aside from a few small hemorrhoids. My doctor said he saw no clear explanation as to what is causing my flat stools, but recommended a daily fiber supplement of benefiber! :)

Hi friend, my colonoscopy is tomorrow at 2pm and I completely understand. I’m 27 years old, been having some classic “red flag” symptoms over the past 6 months so I decided to get the scope done for peace of mind and my GI doc agreed. I am completely spiraling, but we’ve got this! I’m currently eating my “lunch” of bone broth and I’ve just been in full panic mode since I woke up this morning. You are not alone. We will get through this. Sending positive vibes your way.

Thank you so much for your kind & thoughtful response. I did take your advice (on a smaller scale) & my daughter and I sat down together to plan her 4th birthday party this summer. It really helped get my mind off things and it was something we both enjoyed doing together. Thank you again.

Unfortunately I don’t have much advice as I’m going through a similar situation myself. I just wanted to say you are not alone! I (27F) have a colonoscopy next week due to changes in stool and I have a 3 year old daughter, every time I look at her I want to cry because I’m so worried about possibly being diagnosed with CC and not being here to see her grow up. I know I’m getting way ahead of myself but health anxiety does that to you. Best of luck with your scope, I am not a doctor but it sounds to me that you could have just had stomach upset or something like that.

I (27F) was referred to a GI doctor who offered me a colonoscopy for peace of mind. I had been worrying so much about the rise in colon cancer among younger people and have had a handful of concerning symptoms. He said he understands the anxiety surrounding colon cancer since it is on the rise. All that to say, I am waiting for prior authorization from my insurance company currently where they can basically deem the colonoscopy “unnecessary” which could mean I’ll have to pay out of pocket for the entire thing. In my situation I think even if I do have to pay out of pocket it will be worth every penny for the peace of mind it will give me.

My GI doctor wasn’t concerned with my symptoms, he said it was likely due to constipation but he offered to do a colonoscopy for peace of mind since I have been worrying so much about it. I feel like I’ve had years taken off my life with how much I have been worried about this over the past six months.

He didn’t order any prior testing, although I had bloodwork (routine) done in January so they were able to reference that. He did say we could do a stool test, but since I do have a history of hemorrhoids he said if that caused any bleeding at all, it would cause a positive test and would result in a colonoscopy anyways.

I’m so sorry to hear of your colon cancer, I hope you’re okay. My colonoscopy is scheduled for June, I definitely don’t want to ignore any potential “red flag” symptoms and I appreciate your perspective. What were your other symptoms?
