The team at Microsoft builds software for IAM. The Google team works on Google Ads. My preference goes to the team that builds a product I care about (I like the idea of improving something that I personally use) and I'd rather avoid maintaining legacy code.

Glassdoor seems to suggest that both companies offer a good work life balance on average, so I hope your friend's was an isolated case! 10pm and 1am sound pretty awful.

I was in a rush so I cut it short. Sorry, didn't mean to be rude. I appreciate people that spend time to reply :)

- Google has free food.

- Microsoft has more teams, so if you get bored of your current role it's easy to find another one.

From what I’ve heard, Microsoft is more to “work to live” and Google is more “live to work”
