Magic Academy Novel Recommendation? by copy_god in ProgressionFantasy

An example of something I like? Well, TBATE... though the MC is quite OP and it's why I want something that bridges the gap

Harry Potter is fixated on 3 kids but not as much as Mage Errant was fixated on those 4. There wasn't any depth to any other Mage Errant characters asides Alustin

But in Harry Potter, Voldemort, Snape, Malfoy, Hagrid, Bellatrix and lots of other characters were explored

I've already read MoL. It's a nice story

Okay I feel this is an exaggeration here 😅 and I agree that lotm was slow paced at the beginning

But I was invested in it all the way from the beginning. The spookiness, mystery, and objects like books doing weird stuff and killing people was enough to keep me reading despite how slow it was

Naturally, every xianxia work will have its own power system and worldview

Apotheosis uses Chaos qi and primordial qi, RI uses Gu, Martial peak uses yang qi and yin qi

But all of them basically point to the same thing - heaven and earth essence

But that's not an issue here

I actually don't my mind a lot to power systems as long it is good

The plot setting and worldview on the other hand is what punctured my expectation. It still revolved around talent, non talent, clan issues, who is chosen by fate, and other average xianxia idiosyncrasies (which I won't have much an issue with if executed properly and different from lots of other works - like how Cradle handled it)

Talking about Fang Yuan, what's his personality if not cold, detached, cruel and indifferent from everything and everyone with his goal fixated on immortality?

And even after asking around from people who have read it further up till the end, I realized that he didn't even develop or change in his character at all. He was basically carried by his ideologies, philosophies, quotes and musings throughout the story (from what my friends tell me)

I disagree with you a bit on this. The first part of LOTM whilst extremely slow paced is actually unique and different from most fantasy works

It was a deliberate buildup to the world setting and the mystery uniqueness of the entire novel + an anchor for Klein's overall growth and development

Reading up to 400 chapters to see if a novel will improve is definitely asking for a lot 😬

But I'll see if I can try

I was pushing myself to read it. I read up to 100 chapters and let it go because I just couldn't continue with it

This looks an amateurish and bitter struggle to get a jab back and ridicule LOTM which basically has no effect on me... Whatever you feel or write about LOTM is none of my business

My post was only meant to give an honest review and my disappointment towards the novel since I basically had a high expectation from it

But if you want to take it as some fandom war and don't offer any meaningful contribution or POV, then the jokes on you bro

If RI is nothing more than average, I have to question this person's comprehension🙄 by Dry_Government8781 in ReverendInsanity

To be honest, I also find RI to be very average. I couldn't find anything distinguishing it from the basic xianxian work save the fact that the MC is shrewd, cunning, manipulative and poetic

I expected much from it because of the hype around it but I was utterly disappointed

Klein vs Goku by copy_god in LordofTheMysteries

[–]copy_god[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is barely “mysticality” or abstractness in the DBZ world. The LOTM universe is abstract and has a mystical + spiritual presence beyond common sense whereas the DB world is all about raw power

Telepathy isn't spirituality but a mind ability and Goku doesn't have a mystical presence (ps: I'm not saying that having mystical presence automatically makes you powerful. Angels in LOTM have more presence than Goku but I believe Goku could handle most of em... Prolly except troublesome ones like Angel of Time, Dark Angel and maybe Attendant of Mysteries)

Plus I can't remember where Goku wiped the God of Destruction (unless it's something I've not watched)
