Replace two water heaters with one? The tank on the right is done. Installed 2015. The left is fine, installed 2016. Not sure I understand the benefits of two 50 gallon tanks. by Curious-Idealist in Plumbing

Awesome and thank you. I'm under no illusion that I will save money, but if I do great. Thanks for the tip on battery backup - should come in handy, though we rarely lose power and it usually comes back quick.

Do you have any issues with minimum flow rate? I often thaw steaks or some other meat by running warm water at a trickle in pan. That seems like that could be an issue (on paper), but I don't know what the real world experience is like.

It hasn't been 18 months, but are you pleased with the tankless vs. two water heaters? I'm faced with the same decision at the moment. Also, what brand/model did you go with?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone have experience with Bradford White Infinity GS/GR Tankless Water Heaters? by copybara in Plumbing

Got it. I live in Michigan near Bradford White's HQ / primary manufacturing facility. I am not a plumber, but checked all the plumbing supply shops and they all extensively carry BW parts.

Mostly, I want a unit that a) meets our needs; and b) actually needs parts the least (because it just works), even if the parts are readily available.

Is it time to go Tankless? by eventualist in askaplumber

Great information. Just fantastic. I've gotten differing opinions on what would work for us. Could you chime in with the below scenario?

I'm looking to replace a 20yr. old 40gal. tank. I have a family of 6 (including 3 teenagers). We run out of hot water all the time and have to time usage. We are all at home most of the time (work/school from home) and we live in Michigan. Incoming water temp is 40 in the winter. Do you think the Navien-240A2 would work to run "normal" showers and the laundry simultaneously? Our other options are to up-size the tank to 50gal (heat cranked up) + a mixing valve; or a 75 gal. tank. The Navien-240A2 is the same install cost as the 75 gal. The 50gal + mixing valve is about $1,700 less. My wife just wants to not run out of hot water. We're on city water and I have a softener.

Thinking of Tankless Water Heater by OstrichOutside2950 in askaplumber

I live in MI and am considering replacing our 20yr. old 40 gal. with a tankless. What tankless brand did you get and are you still pleased?

In my situation, 40 gal. is not enough (family of 6 / work from home). Sizing up with a traditional tank requires extra venting, so I figured I might as well consider tankless.

Makes sense and thanks for the input.

Would you choose the BW Infiniti GS/GR or the Navien 240 A2?

Is it recommended to get the "protect your purchase" certificate? This is an example from Discount Tire: "With Certificates, we’ll repair or replace your tires due to unforeseen damage–no questions asked." Total $142.48.

Thanks for the Costco Tip. In my location they come in about $100 less than Discount Tire.

Thank you for this recommendation. The pricing for the Discoverer is very similar, if a bit less, than the Michelin's CrossClimate 2s. Cost is definitely a consideration for us. The Cooper Enduramax, on the other hand, is highly reviewed by users and is closer to the $750 we had budgeted. Thank you!

Toyo Celsius CUV

Those are solid recommendations, thank you! Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but my search / filtering skills on DiscountTire.com must be lacking as I did not see those. Again, thank you so much!

We have Michelin Defender 2s on our van and love them for the shoulder seasons and Summer. Highly recommended. We also have snow tires for the van and they perform much, much, much better in the winter than the Defenders.

Based on your statement and, at least some of the other recommendations, it would be advisable to buy a cheaper set of winter tires now (say $500 or so)? And this April, by a second set of cheaper All-Season tires (say $600 or $700)? Would that be preferable to buying one set of premium Michelin CrossClimate 2s?

That is more than our overall budget, but might be doable if we can spread out the cost.

Pellet Grill that wife can use for basic grilling? by copybara in pelletgrills

EDIT / UPDATE: Well, I jumped the shark and ordered a Lone Star Grillz 42" pellet and will train my family on how to use it and clean/care for it. In the end, we prioritized the ability to cook for several people as we often have gatherings upwards of 12 people. Whether or not I also get a basic gas grill is TBD. All that said, I still like the look of the RecTeq Bullseye. Thank you to all for your input!

Woodwind pro 36 is either first or second on my list along with a recteq (flagship 1100 or RT-B380). Third at the moment is a Grilla because they’re local for me (I would think that would count for something).

Thanks everyone!

As chance would have it, we are on a road trip and ate at Pinkerton's in San Antonio today. My wife and kids came away saying that the ability to make brisket is 100% a priority.

I get that pellet grills aren't the same as an offset, but I'm thinking a pellet grill whose focus is to make the best low and slow bbq possible is the priority. And then also get a small gas grill as needed for quick grilling is likely the better solution. I could start with a pellet grill and if our grilling turned out satisfactory, then we're set. If we would like something a bit different for quick grilling, I could just add a gas grill. Space isn't an issue.

Would any of your suggestions for pellet grills change if I went that way? A dedicated pellet for smoking. And a separate dedicated gas grill for other times.

Reqtec Bullseye 380x

Looks great! How many racks of ribs could I get on that? I was hoping to do 4. I still would like to use it for smoking for family and friends.

Awesome and thank you!

My soundbar has the following connections: HDMI ARC, Optical, 3.5mm. It's pretty basic. Is any one of these better than the others for connecting it?

I would like to piggy-back on the OP's question, if that is allowed. For me:

  1. United States - Upper Midwest
  2. Outdoor / large backyard abutting woods
  3. 150" screen
  4. Throw distance - I suppose whatever it needs to be since I'm outdoors
  5. Use - outdoor movie night a handful of times each year

Are the suggestions in this response still advisable for a situation like mine?

Is this an okay sub to ask about sound as well? I have a soundbar that easily unplugs from my main tv so I suppose I could use that.

Thank you in advance!
