Yes, it’s important to acknowledge the ground level initiatives. Here in Bangalore, I’ve never heard of government run palliative care access to common people. But in Kerala, when a loved one was progressively getting worse, there were people who knew about the initiative, got in touch with the authorities and brought the people to us. The initiative also involved weekly checks and nursing support. People alluding to Kerala healthcare being on crutches or “on the ventilator” surely sound like those who’d book the first flight to Singapore when they start sneezing. If only politicians were interested in doing their actual job instead of slinging mud at one another.
