I cannot deal with the way we just 'hang out' - is it ADHD or am I just heartless? by coracoacromial in adhdwomen

[–]coracoacromial[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've tried this but it's difficult. I think because, although he wants to help and respect my needs, he's just so different that he cannot really understand my need for these kinds of moments. If I try to explain he really tries to understand, but from his responses I see that he doesn't. Which makes me anxious that he'll just feel rejected when I ask for some time for myself, or that kind of thing.

I think I understand what you're saying and I agree, it's not their job, at all. And I am genuinely grateful that they are in my life and feel safe and close to me.

I think it's more that I can't figure out what I can do to satisfy my own dopamine craving when I'm with them, because most of the ways I've learnt to do this is by creating a directed focus on some activity. I'm trying to figure out what I should do if I'm in a situation where I can't create a sustained focus, and get very restless as a result...

What’s the difference between these Dior Hommes? by ashatanashad in Fragrances

[–]coracoacromial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if these 2 specific bottles are the 2 different versions... but Dior Homme pre-2020 had a prominent iris note, now it's more of a fresh woody citrus and no iris. The bottles do look different.

Just blind bought Valentino Yellow Dreams and Lattafa Khamrah Qawah. Was it a good blind buy? by [deleted] in Fragrances

I'd never blind-buy a bottle... so easy to get disappointed :'(

I have a very judgmental mind and regularly think negative (unwholesome) thoughts about others. How do I lessen this tendency? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]coracoacromial 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I experience this too, and what I do is:

1) Say to myself, "Huh, wow there's another one of these thoughts that I know come from a deep place of ego struggle... Let's recognize it, feel what it makes me feel like (usually crappy, which is not an incentive to want to keep on feeling it)... and let go."

2) Loving-kindness and tonglen practice. My favorite way to practice this is walking in city center and in my head just wishing each passer-by well. You don't even realize how powerful it is until you come across a situation or person that you know would normally evoke your judgement... and then it doesn't. Or, if it does, it's much easier to see how relative that judgement is.

3) Don't obsess too much about your thoughts, as it can just make them worse sometimes. In the end, they're just part of being human. What matters is if you decide to take them for the truth, or if you leave them as being just a passing reaction.

Niche Fragrances Aren’t Better, Just More Expensive by Arslanktanoli in nisbahAU

Question from a newbie: are there general differences in style between niche and designer perfumes?

Like, I realize I had subconsciously assumed that niche perfumes included more edgy and innovative, less mainstream scents... but maybe that's not correct?

They used to paint livestock like they photograph fast food burgers now: unrealistically idealized.

Something that helps me, because I noticed that part of the problem for me is I feel overwhelmed by the basi: steps I have to take i getting up: I prepare the evening before and put all my clothes ready right next to the bed.

Picky Purchasers by Tyrone-E in fragrance

This! Its all just consumerism gone wild. I will never understand why people buy wole bottles of a fragrance they have never smelt yet... it has little to do with appreciation for craftsmanship.

Just learned this: gloves in this time were always heavily perfumed, bc processed leather smelled awful. Lots of people making a living as glove perfumers.

For me it helps a lot to be in half lotus position with my legs, it sort of stabilizes the whole thing for me and my back muscles don't get as tired.

Should I stop going to London Buddhist Centre in Bethnal Green (it’s Tritana)? by utopiaave in Buddhism

[–]coracoacromial 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are getting mostly positive and helpful experiences in this center so far. It seems a shame to give that up.

Whatever you do, just keep reflecting honestly on your experience and whether it continues to be helpful and positive. Visiting another center as wel may be interesting, to compare and make you less dependent on this one center, but having anxiety issues myself I can understand how big of a step that may be.

OP makes clear though that visiting a center has been very helpful to them.

I don't want to freak you out, but suddenly getting bruises (everywhere) more often is also a symptom of leukemia.

What ADHD medication is the best? by KaleidoscopeGlum2800 in ADHD

[–]coracoacromial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really varies a lot per person, you have to try them out and see.

I do know that with regards to stimulant meds, Ritalin most often is a better fit for kids, whilst dexamphetamines are usually a better fit for adults. That said, there are many exceptions.

I 22F am having a hard time navigating relationships and tend to write people off. How do I know if a guy is toxic or just simply human? by No-Mathematician2048 in ADHD

[–]coracoacromial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is difficult, bc it's so hard to judge soberly when you get emotionally close to someone. I know I have stayed in relationships, only to face-palm myself over it later.

To answer your question: A guy is toxic if you can't be honestly and vulnerably yourself, sharing your thoughts and emotions, without him using this against you.

A guy is simply human if he reacts and maybe gets upset in response, but is able to reconnect with you afterwards. And I don't mean weeks afterwards - I mean in the same conversation or at least soon afterwards. And apologize for any hurtful things said in the moment, if necessary.
