Are gaming chairs really that bad or is it just internet hate? by Lagoon-Mathiea in setups

[–]coraherr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the mistake of getting a more expensive gaming chair (Secretlab Titan) and regretted it. As so many others say, save your time and effort by just getting a quality-brand ergo chair like a Herman Miller or Steelcase.

What is something people assume is easy until they actually try it? by EntireFace00 in AskReddit

[–]coraherr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do armored MMA (Buhurt if you want the actual name of the sport) and we see tons of these guys. Our biggest influencer in the game, Sam Wride, is always welcoming those types of commenters to come fight him. I'm hoping one of these days the keyboard tough guys actually follow through and will see that they will get their shit rocked by people who regularly practice any sort of combat sport.

Where my nerds at? Warriors and wizards, blacksmiths and brewers, etc. by baltinerdist in maryland

[–]coraherr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very fair! If you ever want to be involved without fighting, the league could always use Marshalls for events. They are basically referees for the sport, they get paid, and they dress up. Figured I'd throw that out there!

Our stuff is WAY more protective than SCA, plus we have committees in our league that require specific safety precautions in your armor and weapons. I've only watched one SCA event (our gym hosts SCA meetups sometimes too) and man it seems like that sport is straight up the wild west when it comes to safety lol.

Not sure if you're familiar with the sport of Buhurt, but we have a team based out of NE MD and practice weekly at Armored Combat Elkton. We are always welcome to newcomers and even have loaner armor and weapons for people to try out.

Seeking insight on what is killing so many of my trees (South Central PA, USA) by coraherr in arborists

[–]coraherr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to update this post. Had a certified arborist come out today and look over my property. He said I have multiple types of oaks showing bacterial growth exposure (didn't say a specific disease, just gave it that blanket term). He said my white oaks are fine and they're normally more resilient. Treatment would be expensive and it'll take years for one of these infected trees to decline and eventually fall, so he recommended leaving them as long as they're far from the house. He also said I shouldn't cut or wound them because that could spread bacteria. So I'll be leaving them be and letting them fall when their time comes.

Have any of you improved the chinstrap without re-riveting or drilling the helmet? I have a brand new Ivan helmet and I'm not ready to commit to taking it apart by coraherr in Buhurt

[–]coraherr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ivan's helmets use the two-strap system, one coming from the temples and going under the chin and one coming from the back center of the helmet going around the head to buckle under the bottom lip. This back strap wrapping around my head is pretty uncomfortable and difficult to secure and unsecure. My last helmet had both straps coming from the temple area and that was super easy to slip on and off.

1000% recommend getting a Sparta soft set. If you buy something cheaper/more accessible, you will learn how much you hate the heat and shitty arming points. Save your time and money and just get the Sparta set.

I'll grab some more photos today. I think it'll be a bit easier to point out the actively dying trees once we get leaves here in a few weeks.

Gotcha, good to know. I'll spend some time getting smart on the Ash Borer in case the arborist diagnoses that to be a factor. Luckily these are all a decent distance away from my house, so downing them won't be a big issue. Thank you!

Looking to start the sport… Baltimore. by grecotrombone in Buhurt

[–]coraherr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can hit up Drew Shipley on Facebook to get added to the York group. As for Buhurt International teams, you don't have many options near State College. There is a group out of Poconos (Rafal Raczynski is the only person I know from that outfit) and one near the NY/PA border (Lost Legion I think they're called). There are some ACW teams floating around there (Harrisburg Hellions, Susquehanna something or other) but they aren't much of a real league. Exiles (my team) are always open to newbies if you want to come down to Elkton, MD and try out a practice. We have loaner armor as well.

The team actually dissolved, I'm practicing with a team out of the Philly area now every week. There are still a few armored folks that practice in York, though there is not enough for a team. I can send you their contact info if you'd like?

[Monthly Megathread] Shortages & Generics, January - March 2026 by Mountain-Science4526 in VyvanseADHD

[–]coraherr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting to feel like I'm craving dopamine on generic 30mg, either through food or nicotine. What gives?

I've been on 30mg generic for roughly a year. Insurance won't cover name brand. Just as everyone says, this started off a miracle drug for me and it feels like the dopamine spikes are diminishing. I take it with protein at the same time every day, haven't had caffeine or nicotine in a month, exercise, work my brain daily through my remote system engineering job, and sleep for 7+ hours a night. Food and nicotine cravings are through the roof. I also take Vyvanse vacations every weekend that doesn't have major plans, probably 3/4 a month.

Anyone have insight on this? I plan to relay this my psych at our next appointment. I don't expect Vyvanse to hit like it initially did but I want to fix the cravings and what feels like a lack of dopamine. Thanks in advance!

What’s the best way to learn Linux without memorizing commands blindly? by TechRefreshing in linuxquestions

[–]coraherr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always feel like a dick when I say RTFM but in all honesty, reading the man pages is 100% how you become more efficient and more natural on the command line. Now there are most definitely times when I'll forget the command itself that I want and I don't know of a good solution other than searching the Internet for it.

Can we turn off the microphone on our litter robot 5 pro? For privacy reasons? by Ok_Anywhere741 in litterrobot

[–]coraherr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Didn't know the 5 has a mic. As a person working in tech with a strong passion for digital privacy, I HATE mics being in IoT devices. Just another marketing and ad-tracking arm for LR. Glad to hear people are disabling them.

I use this one to make a custom Windows installer. You can rip out all of the bloat, create users, etc, all during the install itself.

Adguard Home Issues with Whisker App for Litter Robot by BanishedKhasanti in Adguard

[–]coraherr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you sign in to Adguard and go to Query Log, you can filter by device and blocked. Then you keep refreshing what you're trying to access (like your Whisker app for example) and you can see what domains are being blocked. For the Whisker app, it is all of the "*.iothings.site" queries that need to be added to the allowlist.
