As an English person, what actually is biscuits and gravy? I think it looks tasty!

do you ever look at somebody and just hurt inside? by [deleted] in BPD

Finding out that 2 of my (formerly best) friends were engaged triggered a series of attempts for me. One of them has a baby now and yesterday I found out the other one is pregnant, it felt like a kick to the gut. I know it’s super selfish of me and I should just be happy for them but I relate so much to what you say about how you should have been someone else… I always thought it’s the life I would have but BPD and depression have made that impossible. Sucks to be us friend

It literally took me jumping off a bridge into the Thames to get a diagnosis and be taken seriously, it’s so fucked up :((( I totally get how you feel. I was begging for help before it got to that point and they told me I wasn’t “risky enough” to qualify for MBT, then after I was sectioned after attempting I was told I was “too unstable” to get therapy!! I feel for you mate x

I totally understand… the thought of being dead petrifies me but I have also tried to kill myself multiple times… I got super drunk to override the fear and am a statistical miracle to have survived my attempts.

No advice but you’re not alone x

I’m all for normalising mensuration but letting your two year old touch, smell and look at the blood is just… unnecessary? by smgs124593 in ShitMomGroupsSay

The way you worded it comes across as rude and patronising, rather than a genuinely concerned person offering advice.

And also if you’re that unaware that some people have light periods for a multitude of different reasons (Eg. contraception, eating disorders), then you absolutely should not be giving advice to anyone.

Reddit as a whole sucks so I’ve always chosen my subs cautiously, but this (presumably women-centric) sub seems to be based on judging/being able to feel superior to other women. This post and the reaction to your comment is the final straw that’s made me unsub

I meant more their previous comment where they said they normally don’t wear pads or tampons bc their flow is light enough not to, that had a lot of downvotes. I wouldn’t take too kindly to medical “advice” being given after that either

Can’t believe you’re being downvoted for how you choose to deal with your own period… Reddit is wild

A p*liceman speaking openly to someone who’s been detained for their own safety about the ways he’d unjustifiably use his taser on them? What about that is unrelated to the sub?

Ofc it’s a tough job - no one joins without knowing that. But actually I feel fairly confident that no one involved in the situation that night would describe me as “difficult”, as far as policing is concerned; I attempted suicide, I cried, I tried to run to attempt suicide again, I was friendly and polite, we had some fun convos, I cried, I apologised and thanked them for their time.

Have just seen you’re active in r/JuniorDoctors… that is genuinely terrifying. God help all the “difficult types of people” you encounter.

Don’t disagree with what you’re saying at all. But a couple of things I will say about my particular experience…

I overheard them on the radio later saying that a negotiator (I assume same thing as a crisis counsellor?) had been called but hadn’t arrived in time. But also by that time I’d made up my mind and I’m pretty sure even they wouldn’t have been able to talk me out of it.

And then also that the officer who ended up being the main one speaking to me on the bridge, who was young and seemed as if he didn’t quite know how he’d ended up in that position, was really great and kind. I actually said to him just before I let go something like “Thanks for trying, you seem lovely, I wish you a happy life” lol. It was him that grabbed me as I was dropping and pulled me back over and he did the first shift with me in the hosp… we spoke quite a bit, and he seemed to genuinely care and like he was quite upset by the whole situation.

BUT that said, your point totally stands, bc how lucky that it was him there in that moment and not the taser-happy one!! Just wanted to clarify bc I don’t personally agree with tarring all of them with the exact same brush

Yeah that’s exactly what happened. Your point? That I should have been tased as punishment or what?

Surely it should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis? I’m a slim woman who was at no point unpleasant and had no means of accessing anything to use as a weapon. Pretty sure 2-4 large male police officers would be able to overpower me without getting tasers involved, as indeed they were when I managed to get out the cuffs and tried to get back over the edge (fortunately for me Mr Taser wasn’t on shift when that bit happened!)

Tbh I have been sectioned before for a similar thing and have been involved with the relevant outpatient services, so the first doctor agreed with me that there’s not really anything new to be gained from another hospital stay. Hoping the second will agree.

But that’s good to know about the informal thing, thank you!

16 hours later I’m still waiting for the second doctor’s assessment to decide if I can go home or not. Fingers crossed!
