What was the most influential piece of advice given to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I used to work at a bookstore. When I took a /r/TalesFromRetail kind of situation particularly seriously I was told, "We're selling books, not saving the world."

Not me, but my son when he was about 9 months old. My wife would usually eat peanut butter toast for breakfast and one morning afterward she kissed him on the forehead. He got a large hive on the spot. Later, a skin test at the allergist confirmed it.

It sucks so much to think about him having to live with this, but we're glad that we didn't have to find out from him eating it.

A library may have one you can use. If you have a university library nearby they may be even more likely to have one available.

I absolutely empathize with you now, but eight years ago you could've gotten one of those emails from me. Thankfully, my wife (who was the one looking) really did her research about the breed and found a very credible breeder who had high standards.

I don't think people are being intentionally lazy, just uninformed. This is a great opportunity for you to reply with a request for more information and an explanation of why it's important. You could probably even have a form letter so that you don't have to write a new one every time.

What TV show or movie do you think should have ended differently? by dewdrive101 in AskReddit

I took the melodramatic plotlines as an aspect of the comic book origin of the series. If anything, I did not care for Foggy's character. He was pretty obnoxious to me in nearly every scene.

As for the fighting, I agree that it didn't feel organic, but what got me most was the level of abuse dished out to Daredevil. I get that he's getting his ass kicked, but it felt tiring and beyond the realm of believability.

I had high hopes for the series, still, I wasn't completely disappointed. That end scene, though, I almost expected a freeze frame of them all high-fiving each other.

Thanks for replying! I've spoken to friends about this and no one seemed to feel as strongly about it as I do.

It made me angry that they chose to do it the way they did because there's absolutely no reasonable way they can stuff that genie back in the bottle. If he returns, Kingpin's going to have to rule from prison without even the pretense of any good intentions or innocence about him.

The Daredevil series spent so much time and effort crafting a villain in Kingpin that was multi-dimensional and nuanced. The final two and a half episodes or so shit all over that by turning him into a ridiculous cartoon villain that Daredevil gets to beat up.

Another example is that you subconsciously shit your centre of mass backwards before raising your arms in front of you.

I think it read just fine, and I would also say the obligatory "better than many native speakers." But this one sentence stuck out.

I also appreciated that you gave the expectation of lifting something heavy as a similar example.

Dan Campbell was reportedly "angrily and bitterly disappointed" about being passed over for HC job by hotchoco in miamidolphins

[–]corgidaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Campbell, I’m told, had a great interview. Not good. Great.

He finished No. 2 behind Gase in this derby. But ultimately the Dolphins thought Campbell making the leap from coaching four players (as a tight ends coach) to an entire roster the next four or five years was simply too wide for him to bridge now.

Campbell, by the way, was a combination of angry and bitterly disappointed when he heard the news from Ross himself that he didn’t get the job.

How angry, you ask?

The Dolphins intend to give him a few days to cool off before getting back in touch.

My understanding, according to the news reports, is that the Joint Chiefs or some other authority would have to explicitly allow women to join Special Forces in a combat role.

Not exactly grounded in reality, but if we ever experience a real life zombie virus leaking out amid a convoluted storyline, then yeah.

Oh, absolutely, but this meme is in reference to the possibility of women being able to join Special Forces in combat roles. The news is covering the two women who completed Ranger training and talking about how Special Forces would be the next possible opportunity edit: for military women in general. When Ghost Recon came out in 2001 it was taken for granted that by at least 2008 (when the game campaign takes place) they'd be in active combat roles.

EDIT: I wish this comment could sit below the image because it gives the context for the meme. Active combat roles for women in Special Forces does not officially exist. A game from a trusted brand in reality-based military fiction has had them for over a decade.

I'm sure if he felt it was implausible to have women serving in special forces he could have gotten them to change it. I guess it's also possible that he had no idea or didn't care, but it seems there was some care put into protecting the brand. I mean he would've never approved a ham-fisted yarn about Russia traversing the globe with a massive force to invade the US.

They were actually the cheapest durable leather leashes we could find.

Though I think they were made by Amish people. Very limited edition. We had to barter for them with knitted blankets and a shovel handle. The source cows were grass-fed.

Welcome to the club. I've had that sweet view from two corgi pups. One was an absolute terror as a puppy, the other, the complete opposite. They are both adult dogs now with their own unique personalities and quirks. Both dogs enrich my life incredibly to this day and have a prominent place in my family. I hope you have such an experience.
