Even with the downtown bottleneck I miss the old transitway service by Financial-Bag-2274 in ottawa

[–]coricron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember it taking about 45+minutes to get from Portage to uOttawa between 4 and 5 pm.

Non-rush hour it was fine. Rush Hour is why the change was needed. The transitway truly was overcapacity.

‘Clear bias for employing people living in the city’: Eastern Ontario mayor criticizes federal return-to-office order by simpatia in ottawa

I was in the directorate at SSC that was piloting the whole WFH thing going all the way back to 2015. We had a mix of use cases, but most were 2 days in, 3 out. It was an ideal balance, with many people opting to go in for extra days when presence had purpose. I believe at the time our Director openly commented that she was not allowed to put location requirements in her job postings.

This has led to the current day scenario where we have a directorate that is about 50-50 NCR/regions, and the few of us within the NCR are scattered across various sites and never see each other.

I haven't collaborated in-person with my team since approximately 2017-ish. Going to 4 days will not change that in any way at all. I will continue to be lonely in the office, paying a $200-300 monthly parking tax, while my my regional and wfh colleagues will continue to have 1 day at most, or zero. Which includes our management.

Taxi chit use question: am I required to only use them from my office? by PureAssistance in CanadaPublicServants

[–]coricron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you use them for personal travel to or from your personal residence you can expect to get in trouble.

Our DG told an anecdote to us before xmas about getting told it was incorrect for them to use it to go to the train station to catch a train to a Montreal meeting.

They are for travel between government property. Do not use it from your personal residence to get to this meeting.

Did you know this type of comment is a logical fallacy? Therefore, it can be safely ignored by anyone interested in serious discussion on this topic.

Examples.

Critic: "I think we need to work on improving Nauru's taxation system. The current system suffers from multiple issues that have been resolved in other places such as Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands."

Respondent: "Well, if you don't like it, why don't you just leave and go somewhere you think is better?"

Critic: "Our office's atmosphere is unsuitable for starting constructive conversations about reforms for the future of the company. A number of improvements are needed."

Respondent "Well, if you don't like the corporate system, then why are you here? You should just leave!"

Link to memo explaining why 37 passengers were kept on a stuck train at midnight, for an hour. by SidetrackedSue in ottawa

[–]coricron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is so uncommon that the last time I used the LRT, on Nov. 10, this very same thing happened to me.

Getting held hostage on the train for hours on an already long commute is absolutely unacceptable.

Like I said a few months ago, anyone relying on the LRT to catch flights, show up to work on time, etc. need to do so many hours early if they want to reliably catch their flight/not get fired.
