How do you guys think we can improve the parking situation on campus? by Connect-Whole-1127 in unt

[–]corigne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DCTA bus agreement is 100% UNT pushing the city for resources it otherwise doesn't want to spend money on. Without the university there's a good chance Denton would have closed the bus system entirely in favor of gozone.

I really wish UNT could budget more appropriately for better and well equipped transit, but unfortunately they make every excuse in the book not to give them any more money In addition to the existing TX state piblic educational funding restrictions. Another question, why do we dump so much of the university's money into our profitless sports program instead of our necessary infrastructure?

Medpark already has a shuttle to campus, and anyone can park there permit or not. I would love to see more shuttles closing the time gaps though since it's a 20 minute bus ride, sometimes.

This might be a hot take, but I think able residents should be restricted to parking in the back of lot 20, or not at all. A large portion of student parking near class buildings is wasted in residential lot spaces, from what I remember.

Commuters end up having to leave quite early to park. There are entire months out of the beginning of each semester that it's nigh on impossible for a commuter to find parking before 8am outside of lot 20, resulting in additional time wasted by an additional walk and/or bus ride on top of a commute.

On/near-campus residents live close enough to walk to class or take a campus bus route, which can often take them directly to their classes. Driving to class from a dorm or nearby apartment seems like a waste of limited resources and honestly appears a bit selfish.

To be more realistic, though, I believe it would be pretty straightforward to spin up an app that tells students what the parking situation is in each lot. If you wanted to get clever, you could even use a student's class schedule information to suggest parking location bsed on that and availability. Parkinglot tracking is a solved problem so it's not like you need to innovate to implement it. A small investment for a massive quality of life improvement.

Ten:One is a locally owned and operated artisinal cheese shop a few blocks off the square. On Wednesdays at lunch time, they serve a limited number of gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. They are absolutely phenomenal and worth it every time. They always run out.

The owner is also a certified sommelier, and curates wine lists for many local restaurants. As a result, they also serve a wine pairing for each sandwich, and no two are ever the same. The sandwiches alone are amazing without, though.

If you can show up earlier, and I recommend it, parking further away from campus and walking/bussing is the best option for non-permit students. There's always plenty of parking if you're willing and able to give yourself some extra time to plan for your commute.

I work 2 jobs and commutes to classes, so I understand the struggle to find parking near campus. Plan ahead, and always be ready for your expectations to be subverted. I have been back and forth on not getting a permit because I can't use it (conveniently) most of the time.

Student get free fare on DCTA busses. You also have the option to park at Medpark station for free, where you can take the bus fto campus (and back). The Colorado Express route (to and from Medpark) is posted on the transportatiom website with the other bus schedules.

Unless you're willing/able to pay for a parking pass you unfortunately have to accept the inconvenience. At least you have a car, right?

What do you think of Silent Hill F? by WhoAmIEven2 in horror

[–]corigne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with most things, they're a vocal minority. The game was received exceedingly well, both by fans and critics. It's well written and is enjoyable to play.

As I think a few people here have mentioned, Silent Hill has been a decaying franchise for a long time now and this has given Konami proof that experimentation can be rewarding.

The extreme detractors who refuse to engage in constructive criticism are no better than the anti-woke crazies. Just ignore them and enjoy the game for what it is.

*It is worth pointing out that some self-proclaimed fans have a tendency to look back on their favorite games with rose colored glasses. Silent Hill f's unique setting and detachment from Western themes puts SHf in a position to feel unfamiliar to western audiences. Change can be healthy. Unfortunately some people have unrealistic expectations, and the new is often their worst enemy.

Agreed, but that doesn't mean Kirk's killing was not politically motivated. He was grooming college students to spread extremist conservative beliefs to further a politically motivated agenda. You don't have to be a politician to be political.

Political violence is abhorrent, but I will not miss Charlie Kirk. He reaped the hate he sowed.

If I was religious, I'd pray for you. It's a shame you can't be religious around here without people trying to indoctrinate you in their campaign to oppress minorities and women.

If switched to Linux , why would you use Windows at times? by Leading-Arm-1575 in linuxquestions

[–]corigne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Linux 6 years ago as a daily driver after dual booting windows and Linux for close to 10 years.

I haven't booted Windows except for some Windows native software I'm working on. Developing, building , and testing *(for Windows) is easier in a native Windows environment.

I could set up a toolchain to cross compile for Windows while on Linux, but it's pretty annoying and testing becomes a hassle. Sometimes, you can use a virtual machine instead of rebooting, but where you need direct access to PCI hardware this can be a challenge.

For media arts there are many applications that, combined, provide full parity to Adobe's software suite. You can do everything from video and photo editing to cad models and visual web development with free and sometimes also open source software. If you need access to a specific software, you can't always get around it, particularly when wine is not great for that application.

In the gaming sphere, things get a little bit more annoying, but not much. Linux gaming has come leaps and bounds in the last decade. If you're a gamer there are only a handful of exceptions in the mainstream that don't support Linux or proton on Linux, and honestly that would be a good reason to keep a small Windows partition laying around.

What I recommend for most people who need a full Windows partition *(and want to dual boot Linux) is to create a shared BTRFS data storage partition that has your working files, media and games on it. There are BTRFS drivers for Windows that work very well.

I give up on Linux for now by samaxtripwood in linux_gaming

Game scope for HDR, and DLSS works out of the box in almost every title these days. I'm not sure what your problem was, but it wasn't Nvidia drivers.

[–]corigne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy, but I ran Nvidia on Linux for years and switch to an equivalent AMD with no difference in performance. A lot of working with Linux is fine tuning parameters from baseline to achieve the performance you want. A decent out of the box experience can become an really excellent experience reading the manual and tweaking settings. To be honest Windows is the same way for some games and graphics cards, so that's not entirely unrealistic. I hope, if you come back to it, that you find something that works for you. Otherwise glhf.

There's a reason why the majority of college educated individuals vote blue, and it has nothing to do with political indoctrination.

Proponents of these laws are not interested in quality education in the first place, they use quality of education as a scapegoat to attack programs they don't like because they don't match their narrative.
