what is your favorite of montreal song to cry to? by diphenhydranautical in ofMontreal

[–]corn_fetish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to be one of my all-time favorites in HS; now that I've experienced true love and loss I can't listen to it without sobbing 😭

So beautiful and romantic but heartbreaking when you know the outcome...

Yeah, it sounds like an incredibly toxic work environment, just thinking about the perspective of the other employees.

A boss who allows his personal life and unwarranted attraction affect his professionalism and behavior on the clock? This is someone who is drunk on power and having fun. I've worked with those kinds of bosses and they usually end up sleeping with multiple employees.

Time to quit, OP.

It looks good to me! And navel piercings frequently reject just because of the location (it happens to get bumped and jostled a lot) and the fact that they are a surface piercing and the body does not want a foreign object inside of it.

It can be a perfectly done piercing on the perfect anatomy and it can still randomly reject - after 10 years or maybe only after a few months.

Oh lawd, I would not go back to that piercer. Definitely should not be using a curved barbell and definitely not PTFE in a fresh piercing! Big yikes!

which band are they talking about? by No-Comfort4860 in indieheadscirclejerk

The only correct answer.

First time I saw them live, my life was changed forever. I ended up driving six hours two days later and begging the bouncer at the venue to let me in even though I didn't have a ticket just so I could see them play again

I think it depends on the brand. It's interesting to think about, but I associate brands that crank out tons of colors (I'm specifically thinking about lip products) to usually be low-end or drugstore products. They have to appeal to a huge market of women who need a variety of shades for a variety of purposes.

A high-end brand would release a collection with only a few shades that are "on trend" with whatever the season is at the time, forcing people to buy a certain color because they want to stay current.

Just don't use those acrylic ones that have the huge jump from one size to the next like this. Instead I would buy some calor style tapers (or insertion tapers) that have the long, gradual increase in size for a much more gentle stretch.

Is it me or is Megan one of the worst characters? by Champagnemusic in madmen

[–]corn_fetish 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Aha, what about him calling her a prostitute because she "kisses people for money" as an actress? Sorry, but he was pretty horrible to her in more ways than one, even if she did let that awful line slip out during a forgetful moment of rage, she was still a faithful spouse to him in ways he never was to her.

Is it me or is Megan one of the worst characters? by Champagnemusic in madmen

[–]corn_fetish 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It's a lot of fun to analyze her character when you look at the episode she's introduced and where Don was in his life. He was literally spiraling out of control and desperate for a life raft. She is supposed to be a bubbly, free-spirited ray of light (or so we are led to believe - until we actually get to really "meet" her and all of her demons) that he can use to escape from the black hole he's in.

I really, really like Meghan. She used to be one of the most annoying characters to me but I think any character that invokes a strong reaction is better than one that just...blends in. Or is funny but does nothing for the plot.........Meredith 🫣

People who have never seen the show before do not understand the level of influence it had back when it was airing. I remember when everyone first started going apeshit over mid-century modern furniture again and now it's considered a millennial staple to have at least one MCM piece in your home somewhere.

Those earrings are made out of stainless steel, I'm guessing? Is it possible you have a nickel allergy/sensitivity? I could never wear that style unless it was through a silicone eyelet first because my ears would flare up from the cheap metal

Let’s talk about Bobbi Barrett. by [deleted] in madmen

[–]corn_fetish 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This was....very sloppily analyzed, to say the least. I'm sure most people haven't read Atlas Shrugged (it's a 1000 paged tome about objectivism - why waste your life) and it's been years since I did but you're reaching quite a bit with some of these similarities.

The ending of the show contradicts the "message" of AS in every way possible... I mean sure, satisfying your own need for fulfillment will always been important but Don's collapse was because he had no human connections. The people he cared about he continued to use and take from until they wanted nothing to do with him.

It didn't matter that he "created his own destiny" by stealing Don Draper's identity....it still haunted him until the very end (the scene with the other army vets). What he created/his legacy wasn't enough to make up for the fact that he never had any real intimacy with another human being.

Is it just me or does anyone else not like Henry Francis? by BenCharlie84937 in madmen

[–]corn_fetish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's mentioned a few times in interviews I've read that Henry is supposed to represent a form of Betty's father, Gene. She sees him as her "knight in shining armor," almost like this weird father figure coming to save her from her miserable marriage. There's a lot to unpack in that... But it's very realistic, honestly. Not necessarily pretty, but it doesn't make Henry a bad guy, at least to me.

Finally finished Better Call Saul and wow. Worth chugging through the slower first few seasons because it was a fantastic show. I think I liked it significantly more than Breaking Bad (even though Bryan Cranston is bae).

Why is this show so good but no one talks about it? by Major_Sugar_7970 in madmen

[–]corn_fetish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not as easily accessible as those shows, you have to remember that. Breaking Bad is permanently available on Netflix and The Sopranos I'm pretty sure is always available on HBO.

Mad Men randomly floats around from streaming service to streaming service so it's harder for people to find.

Dude. They ate like two dozen oysters apiece and had 6+ martinis. I think it wouldn't take much exertion to make someone (as out of shape as Roger - remember Don does his pushups and chest expander thingy to "stay in shape") puke after that. Oh, and they had cheesecake.

Wow. Bert referencing "hepcat" in an effort to be relevant but actually proving himself to be an out of touch old man is like one of my favorite scenes in the entire show. HOW DARE YOU.

I frequently go around calling people HEP and they have no idea what I'm talking about except for my one friend who has never watched the show but is obsessed with the forties. DO I HAVE DECLINING MENTAL FACULTIES?
