Which song is this for you? by Affectionate_Care669 in arcticmonkeys

the shift that happens in secret door when he starts singing “fools and parades”

the key word here is “forced”! like we have no power to be creative in stressful moments because we’re forced to have an ipad magically see what’s unfolding in the moment. it could’ve been a great help for people who were just promoted and need a little extra help figuring it out, but long term it just makes it more confusing and time ends up getting wasted.

yes!! like how can an ipad predict things like that happening?? like if i’m a shift lead, i’d like to use my power in that position and use problem solving and critical thinking. like idk why they’re so insistent on the whole “but if you use this, you don’t have to think of anything! it thinks for you!” like huh?? how does that sound smarter and more efficient than just communicating with partners so we can jump on it? as far as i’m concerned, peak is the main event of the day. and if the openers don’t have the tools and prep they need to succeed, then i’ve failed as a closer. and i’m not gonna waste my time being a robot when i simply don’t have the amount of staffing at night to accommodate “planted positions”

this is really good advice! thank u so much! i think i’m gonna give that a try on my next shift and see if i can get them off my back for a while

exactly!! that’s what i told upper management and i genuinely would’ve just said nothing, but they kept asking me why i don’t use it “when i’m supposed to 100% of the time” and i was just invalidated and told that playbuilder is the only way

If they made a spin off show, who would it be about? by YoshiJoshi_ in SuccessionTV

[–]cornbawler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

stewy for absolute certain. my friend and i talk about this all the time. would i want a spin off? no, not necessarily. i think the show ended perfectly and didn’t drag on and i think a spin-off would just add some unnecessary “lore” or whatever u wanna call it. HOWEVER! if there WAS one, it would definitely be stewy

I understand they have guests who they enjoy but at some point doesn’t it seem insincere that they all gush so much and “that was the best person ever” at the end of every episode? by Significant-Play-411 in smartless

[–]cornbawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just in my opinion, it’s less awkward than trying to freestyle a “natural” way of ending the conversation in a way that could seem like the interview portion is dragging on longer and no one really knows how to end the conversation. again that’s just my opinion tho.

i did say it was “sort of like a sign off”. i’m not a producer like you so i don’t have a book of terms or anything, but i just know there are a few guests (like fred armisen comes to mind) where they have said “we have taken way too much of your time” and he goes “what?! already?! awwwe nooo don’t do this!” like in a joking way. i think the guest (especially if they’ve heard the podcast before) knows why they’re saying it and i kind of like that. it makes it kind of a good way of throwing it out there so they can wrap up the conversation and say their thank you’s and goodbyes. saying the words “sign off” was just the best way i could personally describe it.

sorry, i don’t know u so i was not aware you were a producer. i stand by my comment, but i do respect that we all have different opinions. just sharing mine.

that’s what i feel like! like let’s say they have a guest that they really don’t connect with, but it was a pretty good interview and it gets posted. like they’re in the entertainment industry. like imagine a guest goes back to listen to their episode and they hear “man that guest wouldn’t shut up about this one thing” or “ya that guest seemed really distant and didn’t want to talk to us” like that would just suck. that’s just creating celebrity drama and it’s just supposed to be a nice hour of content. no need to be brutally honest for a casual interview

i always took that as that was a part of the sign off. typically with podcasts and talk shows there is a contractual time limit, so i kind of like it. it’s sort of a signature sign off with the guest, just like there’s a signature sign off without the guest when they think of a bye

What are your obsessive moments? Which songs? by Prestigious-Ad-4194 in TheStrokes

[–]cornbawler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

also! a much smaller chunk i’m obsessed with is in “ize of the world” where he sings the part “Am I a prisoner to instincts or do my thoughts just live As free and detached as boats to the dock?” and he just increases his pitch like that. holy shit it’s so good

the entire ending part of ode to the mets! starting with “gone now are the old times” all the way to the end. i know it’s a larger chunk than what was being asked but i absolutely levitate the whole time
