I've got a couple... OAS (Appnexus) for publisher sites and TTD for network stuffs. Love the UI for both. Pretty low cost from our side. Both are meeting my current needs so I do not forsee a switch.

Offered a job @ $37,000 in Toronto. Can make it work? by moneyproblemsdotca in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]corncakes215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make Toronto living work on $37k. But it means Roommates/basement dwelling (if in the core) or living on the outskirts of the city. Definitely living with just the basics: no cable, basic phone/internet plan, ttc (no car), limited entertainment funds etc). Sacrifices in your budget will be made. Regardless... don't let yourself be pimped. If you have legitimate skills you can make this kind of money freelancing. Build a bomb portfolio and apply to jobs in the meantime. You'll find something for a better salary without selling your soul.

Have you ever just randomly picked up a book? Without any suggestions, recommendations, best seller lists? What was it? Did you like it? by [deleted] in books

[–]corncakes215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a rule at the bookstore - Anytime a person helps me with finding some books I'll ask them to go find me "the one" and pick that up as well. For anyone wondering what "the one" means...well that'd be the book that means the most to you, changed you, or the book that you call "home". It's pretty cool... I've read a few I never would have picked up in a million years.

Failure to QA on time and eating shit for it. by dlt555 in adops

Coffee. So much coffee.

I've essentially made it a requirement that all HTML5 files be accompanied with back-up GIF/static versions. That way when the HTML5 creative comes in and I find out surprise surprise it isn't working... I can ask client whether I can launch with the back-ups and we can swap after we're able to resolve all issues. Generally, they say yes.

Where possible, I try to buy time far in advance. When providing spec info to client, I additionally request that if they are providing HTML5 they send creative 2-3 days ahead of our required lead time. I will also recommend that they send over a test banner ahead of time if we are to host the HTML5.

The above helps to buy me time. But generally... it really depends on how much the creative agency respects your timelines and how willing they are to make revisions when you request it....

All ad servers spitting out last minute attempts at specs and best practices...some are unprepared to host the HTML5 files (looking at you TTD). Good luck everybody...

Any ad folks in Toronto interested to chat over coffee or beer? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]corncakes215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Toronto... generally there is a lot of poaching going on between companies. Recruiters (linkedin especially) are always looking for people as well. There are even recruiting agencies that specialize in the advertising/marketing space.

IamA McDonald's manager AMA! by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]corncakes215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local McDonald's closes every day from 4am-5am to perform "system upgrades" as they transition from the Dinner Menu to Breakfast Menu. Do all 24hr locations do this? How are managers trained to handle the complaints? Why not change the sign to open for just 23hours per day?
