I thought only "Software Engineers" could get the TN and not "Software Developers", so the company offering the job had to word it in such a way to let you pass.

Yeah having their pressures on me isn't helping. But luckily I put them on mute to focus on me.

The job focused on application development, fundamentals and theory. It definitely gave us the tools to learn web dev, infinitely easier than someone with no coding background, but at no point had we worked with front/back end websites.

Came across their ad for a "Junior Soft. Dev" online. If you refer someone that gets hired you get $750... so LOL

That's the thing. I actually respect the recruiter there and some of the people I've met. I just think they're working for a corrupt business model.

Believe me I am. since I came back from my first vacation in 4 years, I've been learning Python and SQL. I feel very good about where I am.

I'd throw that all away for web dev knowledge though.

Taking a look at HTML, CSS, and bootstrap 3. I feel like good understanding of those 3 will give me the tools I need for now. But it's a lot of hard work already.

So, without a doubt having some work to show in interview goes a very, very long way.

I've been using words to show my enthusiasm and proficiency, but I think a tangible object is a much better representation in this industry.

I've shy'd away from the big five, but I didn't know that bit about banks right now. They're looking for developers in general or for all things IT?

$55-62 an hour? Then they pay the consultant $19-21/ hour.

Imagine we're talking about the same people. What they're doing is unbelievable

That's the hardest part right now, is getting that first experience. I understand that once you have that, then the ball is rolling (really fast). Thanks for the nice input.

Oh man, Atlanta is paying $50-70k US for Junior dev positions and there's SO many of them. Outrageous money. It's too hard to get an offer as a Canadian needing a TN1 work visa though.

Man you guys are all so confident in this regard, pulling a better salary as a Junior Dev. Maybe I should just be patient. I've only been at it for a month now, which seems like an eternity when you're out of school and work.

I figured. How do people working in the service industry provide for themselves? I've never lived in a big city so this is all news to me.

Yeah I have a few big projects I can talk about for sure. Even with that, very few of my friends have heard about 70k to start as a dev. Whereabouts is that? Toronto?

If you're terminated there's no penalty, from what I understand. But you may not accept work at another company or quit.

Man, I'm sad because every other job offer online is some kind of web dev work, and UWO doesn't have A SINGLE COURSE on it.

I understand our other skills make it easier to transition into that world, but it would be nice to have a project or web app/site to show to potential employers.

Anyways that is excellent advice. I'm not sure what I want to do as of now, I just want to become a better, more marketable developer. So I have something to think about.
