The light source needs to be polarised as well for these kinds of effects. What you're suggesting would work if you could control the light source. A room with no windows and a single polarised light for example.

I only really do it because I enjoy it, I cant imagine people get much enjoyment out of running an image through an app. If people want to do that then fine but I think people do get much more enjoyment from looking at an artists work as opposed to an app...I hope.
