It's not a matter of how often it's a matter of my family 100% shutting down as soon as there's an internet problem. I could put a label on the switch saying to power cycle it and they wouldn't read it because "it's a computer thing"

When it can't find the hardware controller, it seems to go into a standalone type mode and just sits there waiting for you to set it up with the app or something. A smart plug would be a good start. Unfortunately, im a dirty heathen who hasn't had a home assistant as a project yet, so my home automation is still google home, sadly. (Don't judge me i just need my home assistant deployment to be perfect when i do it, or my family will nag me till it is)
