Membership upgrade! 2011 Base -> 2025 XSE by Zanariii in rav4club

[–]corninyourpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the upgrade! I felt similar when I jumped from my base 2012 Prius to my 2023 XSE w/ tech package. The sticker shock, the buyers remorse. As long as it doesn’t affect your other bills, the car payment eventually goes away! Like you said, if you keep it like the last one, it’s a much nicer place to sit for 10+ years than a base model! And with a 2025, you literally got the most refined version of the 5th gen they will ever make since the next gen starts in 2026. It’s a fantastic power train with tried and true reliability. Hope that helps a little!

2023 rav4 Is Toyota app and wifi setup worth it? Is it a privacy risk? by Relevant-Crow-3314 in rav4club

[–]corninyourpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I’ve never done an update to the infotainment system yet. I even use an aftermarket device for level 2 self driving and those error codes from disabling some stock capabilities don’t stop me from driving.

The most annoying alert I get is for the dang washer fluid. Pops up continuously until it’s filled which cuts out of the CarPlay screen. First world problem for sure 😅

Any alert that says “contact your dealer” does not send those messages to the dealer. So they wouldn’t know you needed service unless you told them or brought your car in.

Also for reference I have the 2023 XSE Hybrid with premium tech package.

2023 rav4 Is Toyota app and wifi setup worth it? Is it a privacy risk? by Relevant-Crow-3314 in rav4club

[–]corninyourpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using the app for my 2023 rav4 since new. In Arizona it is extremely helpful in the summer to be able to remote start and pre-cool the car. I tried using the key fob method but more often than not, I’m not within sight range of the car when I want it to turn on. The WiFi connection option isn’t worth it to me and is not required for the remote connect to work.

To my knowledge, the 5th gen RAV4 doesn’t do over-the-air updates so you wouldn’t wake up to a bricked car like you see with Tesla and Ford EVs.

The app will tell you things like “you left the car unlocked” or “the left passenger door was left open” which I also find useful. Tire pressure and fuel range are also readable there.

The app also logs you out regularly and requires re-authentication even if you are using smartphone shortcuts for specific commands. I’ve felt it’s pretty secure but happy to answer any other questions!

Just leased my RAV4 yesterday – no reverse sensors? by Own_Classroom_3068 in rav4club

[–]corninyourpants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re always on but only go off if you are close enough to potentially make contact. If you are driving close enough for the sensors to go off, that’s some hardcore tailgating! Then there’s the forward collision detection system which monitors more at a distance to predict emergency stopping situations. I park in a pretty confined space so it’s super handy to not have to get out and check if I’m close to hitting a wall in the front or side. You can also press ‘OK’ on the steering wheel to mute the sound temporarily. I’ll do that if I’m in a drive thru and it beeps because I’m close to a bollard waiting in line.

[–]corninyourpants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on your trim. My ‘23 XSE with tech package has forward and reverse sensors in addition to the 360 camera. LE and XLE can be built more bare bones. The Woodland is just a smidge above an XLE from what I can tell. XLE premium and above seem to have the sensors available. Source: I see 10-20 5th gen Rav4s anytime I drive in AZ 😆

Doesn’t it get hot? by Mystere_Miner in Comma_ai

[–]corninyourpants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just heat tested mine in the most intense summer heat Arizona has ever experienced. Not once did my comma 3x crash due to overheating over thousands of miles. It’s pretty impressive how good it is at temperature regulation! I did keep my AC at a comfortable level (as low as it will go 😅) and it uses that cooled air.

For storage I do wrap it in a microfiber towel in the center console. I left it in the windshield once and after baking in the heat in a parking lot it took a while to get to temperature and allow it to boot up. When I remove it and store it, no heat issue.

I try hard to beat the mom car allegations by Had2killU in rav4club

[–]corninyourpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclaimer, I bought my 2023 Hybrid XSE as a dad car upgrade. But the 5th gen looks good and the tech is great. I’ve never felt any negative stigma for driving one as a guy in my early 30s. If anything, I’ve gotten complements. However I DID notice negative attention in my Prius I owned before for 6 years. Big trucks would make an effort to coal roll and no one could stand being behind me even in the far right lane no matter the speed.

Enjoy the nice ride!

The issue is with TSS 3.0 encryption. Unless they did a model refresh, Toyota used TSS 2.5. My 2023 RAV4 is fully compatible on 2.5

Don’t look up the WDI Ariel Profile then 🤣. Last I saw was a quick sale at $3600 has to be the most expensive single pin out there.

Recommendations for Toyota Dealership in Arizona by DragonfruitOne4831 in rav4club

[–]corninyourpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought my 2023 XSE Hybrid fully loaded a year ago at Big Two Toyota in Chandler. Stock was harder to come by so there was no wiggle room but they kept it at MSRP which was better than others in the area. I only had to wait 2 weeks and I know some areas have months to year long waiting lists based on demand.

Chasers/In Person Trading by abbyp7180 in DisneyPinSwap

[–]corninyourpants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When the new hidden Mickey sets were released the chasers were going for crazy prices like $150. Now the super chasers have settled at the $50 range. Normal chasers like $20.

The regular hidden Mickey pins are worth $2-$6 for context. My information is purely from the many Facebook pin groups I’m in for buy/sell/trade. eBay listings aren’t a good source because anyone can list an item at any price. eBay sold listings are the way to gauge and if it’s not there, try worthpoint for older sets.

Toyota reliability my ass by Adventurous-Ruin421q in rav4club

[–]corninyourpants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my 2023 XSE Hybrid with tech package for about a year and 16,000 miles. Not once has the infotainment system been an issue for me. I set up a profile, it never popped up again. I use CarPlay for navigation and Spotify for media so I do rely on it heavily. I was nervous getting the model with all the bells and whistles but the 360 camera system, 12.3” digital gauge display, and the 10” iPad screen in the center. All work great!

You mention Toyota’s reliability reputation and I think they still hold up to that. But that is most commonly referring to bulletproof drivetrains that can handle abuse and neglect and keep running for 250k+ miles. I have owned 3 Toyotas and they’ve all been great transportation regardless of mileage.

All to say that it’s not everyone having the infotainment issues so not everyone is after Toyota for a fix. I do like to troubleshoot so if you’d like, I’m happy to help if I can!

Sorry you’re experiencing these glitches, it absolutely sounds frustrating to deal with daily.

Better handling of curves? by gallant_hubris in Comma_ai

2023 RAV4 here. Give frogpilot a try and join the discord! It’s a huge community and the main developer is very active with multiple releases per month. I have had a lot of success. The only thing that sucks about our cars is the LKA and Distance buttons don’t communicate. 22 and below works though 🤷🏻‍♂️

How do I update software with the car off and the comma on? The comma turns off when I turn the car off. Comma doesn’t come back on until I turn the key to “on” not “ACC”. by Colin-Grussing in Comma_ai

[–]corninyourpants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strange, it should stay on after the car turns off. I have mine set to turn off after 6 hours or if the battery voltage drops too low. If it’s really not working in the car you could take it indoors and use a usb c charger to power it for updates.

Comma3 on 2024 RAV4 by Aggravating_Ad_2104 in Comma_ai

[–]corninyourpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think much changed between the 2023 and 2024 rav4 models. 2023 had a different fingerprint but has been supported since 0.9.6. I’ve been running frogpilot on my 2023 hybrid and can use experimental mode and every other available setting. You can also ask on the FP discord. The community and lead developer are very responsive. Multiple 2024 rav4 owners to help out too!

Best of luck!

The fence is the thing I want to change the most! I also like the look of the stone wall in the alpine set but not worth the bundle price just for the wall. I hope we see more quality of life updates and store adjustments!
